3868.0. "Fonts ??" by WELSWS::FINNIS () Thu Jun 21 1990 11:37

    Hi,

Does anyone have a good version of Fonts.zoo

The one on wjg::amiga gives errors when you try to extract
files form the arcs . Some work but most don't.

Cramer in particular gives a file truncated message.

This all done on the VAX so no download problems involved.

Errors from ARC under VMS are often due to the file being in the wrong
    format for ARC to read.

Rather than converting the file you might want to pick up a copy of
VMSSWEEP, it now handles the ARC files in whatever file format you
happen to have and also reads ZOO files the same way. The program
adapts to the archive format based upon the filename extension. I have
found it quite useful when the ARC utiltity complains.

run the cvtarc program on it with the appropriate option (either u or v).

    John,

I tried cvtarc u and v on the files in the zoo archive and got the
    same problem..

Try the version of ZOO on wjg::amiga:zoo.exe

It seems to work fine for me. If you still have trouble, I'll unpack the
fonts.zoo into an area on wjg::

    re .4:
    John,

Please reread .0. The problem isn't with the zoo file, its the extracting
the contents of some of the arc files it contains. Some were reported as
corrupt. Try dearcing macfont.arc - if I remember right that was one
of the files that shows the problem.

    hope this helps,

Sorry, My mind's been in VMS lately :-)

I get the same error on macfont.arc - however, the "corrupt" file is the
last one in the archive (Xfile.9) and the execute.me file (which renames
al those files to something meaningfull) doesn't even reference that file.
Probably corrupt from the origin...

I didn't check the other arcs in there.

You can get *most* fonts out of there [fonts.zoo] (tons of them!), what's
a couple corrupt ones :-)

I have had problems with VMS ARC and sweep both complaining about crc
errors only to down load them and use PKAX with no problems. I have
not tried the files in question but apparently VMS ARC cannot handle
the newer compression if they were created with the PKarc series of
    programs.

I am the one that originally uploaded the fonts. I got the arc's with
the last file corrupted off Compuserve. This was very early in my
downloading career. I was using Xomdem from VT200, and I thoutht the
arc's on Compuserve were corrupt, since I got other arc's without a
    problem.

But as reply .6 indicated it is only the last file in the arc that is
corrupted. You can still get alot of useful fonts. As to the
macfonts, I have never tried to use them.

Don't forget to run fixfonts after you load the new fonts.

I unzooed this on my Amiga and then tried to de-arc, but the 3 i tried
all had bad headers (2001, Basic, Cramer). Anyone else havinbg
success?
