3821.0. "ProWrite upgrade offer" by ABSISG::HENNESSY (IMAGES....diddled here....) Mon Jun 04 1990 12:42

    	I have been using ProWrite since I purchased my A500.

    	Just recently I found out that ProWrite has been updated and that
    	they would offer an upgrade policy.

    	I wrote, 5 weeks later I get back this marketing hype type stuff.
    	It says I will be granted the opportunity to upgrade from 1.0 to
    	3.0 for 80$(incl s/h).

    	Any one know what the street price for ProWrite V3 is?
    	Or should I grab the update offer?

    	Thanks for your answers in advance.

    	Rich.

3821.1No bargain but maybe $80 is the best price.STAR::ROBINSONMon Jun 04 1990 14:446
     I've seen v3 advertised mail order for about $95. The list price
     went up for 3.0. At $80 I don't know that I'd "grab the update offer"
     without seeing what the MO places will do for you, especially if
     you are getting something else at the same time and get a break on
     shipping etc.

    That strikes me as low. List price is $180, or thereabouts. List
    price for ProWrite 2.5 was $130.

    Good advice. One way or another, I think you'll WANT ProWrite 3.0's
    features, though. The enhancements are quite significant.

I hate to gloat :+) but perhaps I got the best deal when I upgraded from
ProWrite 2.0 to 2.5 for $25 (I think it was $25). Since 3.0 was on the way, they
sent me a certificate for a free upgrade when it became available. I've sent in
my order and am currently awaiting the upgrade.

Impatiently, Dave

RE:.2
	Whate are the *significant* new features ? I have v2.04 (I think)
	and ProScript which I use fairly often for simple stuff. I'd like
	to know what's cooking...

       I called the ProWrite folks yesterday to confirm what I read in a
       recent Amazing regarding upgrading to V3.1. They confirmed that
       V3.0 owners could get the upgrade for $10 (+ $5 S&H for
       International customers - Little do they know that it cost less
       to mail it from the U.S. to Canada then it would to mail it across
       Canada - grrrrrrr) and the original V3.0 Program Disk.

       I also asked them about the status of ProScript. Apparently there
       is none other then the fact that their development A3000 went down
       and is with Commodore for repair. This is unfortunate, as it
       limits the ability to use the features such as multi-columns and
       the like if you plan on outputting to a PS printer.

3821.7What's in V3.1?ULTRA::KINDELBill Kindel @ BXB1Thu Oct 11 1990 17:3526

    Anybody know what's new in V3.1? I'm quite happy with V3.0 and I
    wonder what features await me (and if it's worth $10 to get them).

    I also have ProScript and am irked by the limitations it puts on me.
    At present, I have to format the document with ProWrite 2.5 in order to
    have things display properly via ProScript. I sent a letter to New
    Horizons suggesting that an updated version ProScript was now overdue,
    but received no response. I'm baffled by the explanation given above.
    Perhaps New Horizons is too embarrassed to admit they left their only
    copy of the new ProScript sources on the ailing machine's hard drive
    (that's sheer speculation, folks 8^).

       RE: .7

       From what I recall from the AC article, the major upgrades are
       that the File Requester has been changed (no more cylcing through
       the drives) and the ability to SPEAK the text has been added.

       Excellent guess, they told me they lost the hard drive.
