3816.0. "Need Perfect Vision 1.2!!" by FASDER::AHERB () Thu May 31 1990 23:17

    Is there anybody out there that has the latest version of Perfect
    Vision? Ive had mine for a year and have version 1.1..ive heard that
    there is a new version.

    If you have it could you please upload it or is it illegeal? I dont see
    why it would be though

    Since Perfect Vision is a commercial product, the software is probably
    copyrighted, making it illegal to upload copies.
3816.2-1 good adviceSALEM::LEIMBERGERFri Jun 01 1990 10:059
    I am not sure that Perfect Vision is even being made anymore. I'd
    go the route of .1 and try to contact the company that produced
    it. I know that Perfect Sound used to be freely distributable but
    had this privledge removed with release 3.0 . I doubt that Perfect
    Vision could be placed on the net. With many of the combination
    software,hardware products the developers have been tightning up
    on the software distribution,and some have decided not to bother
    carrying the products anymore.

3816.3I should have got DigiviewFASDER::AHERBSun Jun 03 1990 14:248
    I could understand why they would want to copyright Perfect Sound since
    other sound digitizers would be able to use it but I see no reason in
    copyrighting Perfect Vision since only ppeople who have the Perfect
    Vision software could use it!!!

    Does anybody know if the newer version of Perfect Vision supports the
    640 mode?

3816.4Bad breakSALEM::LEIMBERGERMon Jun 04 1990 08:3414
    The problem is hackers have been copying the hardware. I met a guy
    the other day that was inquiring about the hardware part of Digiview,
    and Amax. He said he had both packages. What a bummer the poor guy
    bought two products,and they both came without the hardware part.
    Thats what I call bad luck. Well actually it is bad luck for the
    many others that have PAID for the packages an seen support dry
    up due to this activity. I know they were unable to get Perfect
    Vision for awhile now,but I believe the company (Sunrize??) is
    still around. A guy bought Perfect Vision into System Eyes last
    week looking to sell it. However every time they tried it the top
    of the screen was cut off. I was not too impressed with the pics
    they did get. Of course this was in capturing mode. I did not stay
    around long enough to see how it did in other modes.

    re: .4:
    Top cut off. Same problem with Digiview, but its default is to split
    the cut off section into half on top and half on the bottom so its not
    as obvious. The Digiview software has a Camera pull down menu that lets you
    move the area to be digitized around to limit the cut off section to
    less important areas of the picture. Unfortunately, Digiview isn't a
    frame grabber like Perfect Vision and requires a very steady image.
    Neither is perfect, but I haven't seen anything better come along yet
    for the same price range.

    dennis

    >> I was not too impressed with the pics

    Producing good pics in only 16 levels of grayscale takes alot of
    practice, a good quality video source, time, and a decent paint program
    to touch them up with.

3816.7oh wellFASDER::AHERBTue Jun 05 1990 23:168
    I must be lucky. I have been making pictures with Perfect Vision
    (color) that look like the pictures of the digiview ads! When
    amigaworld compared digitizers Perfect Vision was last but I get much
    better pictures than them.

    I still want to try to get the new version somewhere. Hoping that it
    will support the 640 modem. 320x200 and 320x400 get dull after awhile

3816.8NAC::BRANNONvalue addedWed Jun 06 1990 19:0714
    RE .7:
    Now you got me really interested. I've been using Perfect Vision with
    the Sunrize Color Splitter and the color pictures I've gotten have
    left alot to be desired. Any hints or guidelines for knob settings?
    I'm using a SHARP VHS freeze frame for input; what do you use?
    I occasionally get one that looks better than the digiview ads but only
    rarely and after many trys.

    Perfect Vision 1.2 only offers "Lace" as a choice, so its still 320x200
    and 320x400.

    I only use color filters,a very bright spotlight and a magnavox
    camcorder. Ever since ive been using this spotlight thing (a bright
    lightbulb surrounded by metal) Ive been getting real nice pictures.
    After I digitize I always increase the red and saturation up 1. Ive
    never used a VCR before. But when I digitize, the first time I do it
    looks just as good as everytime I do it. How come it takes many tries
    for you? What has been improved in Perfect Vision 1.2?

    The VCR freeze frame isn't 100% stable and the picture flickers
    changing in intensity. I just wait until it reaches a reasonable good
    image and click the mouse to capture it. For color it there seems to
    be only a narrow range of brightness and saturation knob settings that
    will produce colors that come close to matching the correct colors.

    The only real enhancement I noticed in 1.2 was the Auto choice to do
    all three passes from a Sunrize Color splitter connected via a joystick
    extender cable to the Perfect Vision box with just a single mouse
    click.

    I've heard color filters do a better job than a color splitter,
    especially for Digiview.

    thanks,
    dennis

    Color filters with a monochrome 'security' camera generally produce the
    best pictures. I had very poor results using the filters with a color
    camcorder, in my case the color spitter was better. (using DigiView)

    The reason the pictures come out better with a B+W camera and the
    colour filters is due to the better horizontal resolution of those
    cameras, in the case of the Panasonic it is 560 lines, compared with a
    regular (non hi-8) camcorder which is 230-300 lines.

    Is my camera color or B&W? When I am recording something and I look
    through the caera it is B&W but the tape plays in color on the VCR.

    Does it matter if the color filters have a whole bunch of little
    scratches?

    re: .13 B/W or color?

    Your camera probably has a small (1") monitor screen at the eyepiece.
    If the tape plays in color then you must have recorded in color, nu?
