3762.0. "Cheap RAM expansion" by GIDDAY::LAWSON () Wed May 09 1990 03:44

I have uploaded Yet another cheap hardware hack to Tape::.
If you have an A500 and want to add 2+ meg cheaply, have a read.

I dont know if it works but it's worth a look.

What's with the banks of 512k.

Is this to say that it's paged or what ?

Is it Slow-fast ram, fast-slow ram, or chip-slow-fast-paged ram ?????

    Sounds Strange to me !!!!

There must be an easier way to address fast memory than
    this surely....

    RE: .3

    >Whats with The banks of 512k.

    	Methinks a limitation caused by 256kb chips, i.e,256kb X 16bits =
    	512k bytes.

    >Is this to say that it's paged or what?

    	Don't believe so!

    >Is it Slow-fast ram, fast-slow ram, or chip-slow-fast-paged ram ?????

    	Yes.

    >Sounds Strange to me !!!!

    	Seems to work.

    >There must be an easier way to address fast memory than

    	Maybe........

I've just about completed a design which interfaces those old microvax
2000 2/4 Meg Arrays to an a500 via 3 chips with *NO* butchery of the Vax
memory board. i.e, it becomes plug compatible. (it is *Based* on Les'
design) The only trade-off is that you only get access to half of the
memory on the board because the vax board is 32 bits wide. Now if I had
    a 68020..........

I'll post the design here If (and when) it works....
