3715.0. "MS-DOS VT200 like emulator" by ISIDRO::JIMENEZ () Wed Apr 25 1990 09:07

    Does someone knows if VT200, the terminal emulator, is available
    for MS-DOS in some place in the network?

    I like VT200 on the Amiga and would like to use it as well with a
    Decstation (Ollivetti).

    Maybe there are other emulators that I'm not aware of, all I need
    is any that supports graphics (REGIS) and other stuff (not SIXEL)

    Pointers are welcome, couldn't find anything in other conferences.

3715.1Try ProComm?LEDS::ACCIARDILarger than life, and twice as uglyWed Apr 25 1990 12:376

    I've used ProComm on a VaxMate, and it seemed like a very good VT200
    emulator. I don't know where it came from, but NAC::IBMPC may be of
    some help.  I _think_ it's PD/shareware.

3715.2Not as easy as AMIGAdosISIDRO::JIMENEZThu Apr 26 1990 15:3610
    Thanks for your help Ed. Actually, ProComm is not PD according to
    the info on NAC::IBMPC. I've posted notes on a couple of MS-DOS
    related conferences, will see.

    I'm not prepared to pay 250$+ for a comm program, on the other side
    it's difficult to survive with a limited VT52 emulator!

    I have a pd program called Telex, it's alot like procomm and exceeds
    the 19.2 kbaud transfer rate and supports Zmodem, if there is interest,
    I'll ul it to tape along with the pkunpak.exe it needs to unpack it.

    RE: .2 Procomm is Shareware and is available on BBSes everywhere.
    There is an enhanced version called Procomm+ that can be had for
    about $65 at you nearest MS-DOS toy store.

    Another real good shareware product is called Telemate. It happens
    to have ZMODEM built-in - something that Procomm and Procomm+ do
    not have.
3715.5What about VT240WELMTS::FINNISPeter Finnis at WelwynThu Apr 26 1990 20:198
    Don't Dec do a vt240 emulator for the PC.??

    Not sure if it does upload/download though . I used it on a vaxmate
    because in 132 mode you had to keep shifting the screen to read
    all the columns ?

    It seems to me that one or more of the MS-DOS KERMIT implementations
    does a reasonable VT220 emulation. The price is right.

    re .5:
    the DEC PC VT240 emulator (SETHOST.EXE) only does VT240 graphics on a
    VAXmate. Its VT220 (text only) on non-VAXmate MS-DOS PCs.

    On the VAXmate 132 column is done by screen shifting in text mode and
    132 column on screen when in text and graphics mode.

    On PCs with video hardware that offers a hardware 132 column mode
    SETHOST can be configured to switch into and out of that mode using
    whatever mechanism that particular video vendor chose since 132 column
    is not a 'standard' offered by IBM so there was nothing to clone from.

    SETHOST only has raw text upload and download since its part of a
    network kit that already has file transfer in it.

    The latest MS-DOS KERMIT MSVIBM.EXE offers VT320 emulation with SIXEL
    graphics support. I've used it for a little bit, but now mostly use
    sethost for dialing in and floppies via Crossdos for downloads.
    But as .6 pointed out the price is right.

    p.s. I'm still hunting for a reasonable (as defined by my
    likes/dislikes, VT2xx or VT3xx terminal emulator for the Amiga)
