3705.0. "can't duplicate from WB" by SALEM::LEIMBERGER () Sat Apr 21 1990 09:58

    After installing 16 more chips on my 2058(4meg total) I am experiencing
    some problems.Whenever I attempt to duplicate an empty drawer(tried
    several different ones)the system makes the icon then gurus. At that
    point I get a dh0: not valadated on reboot. After rebuilding the
    drive(40 meg GVP)I still got the guru but no valadation error.
    Setting nofastmem allows me to do a duplicate from the WB.Now it
    appears I may have a bad chip, but why is it apparent only when I
    attempt to duplicate a drawer from WB? What is the best way to
    isolate the bad component?

    I ran the 2058 diagnostics this weekend. With just the SuperGen 2000s
    installed the test passed,I installed the GVP hard card, and the
    test gurued right after the credits. So the problem seems to be in
    the disk controller. The only other thing I did lately was install
    the fat lady for more chip ram.Could this have any bearing on the
    problem? If I have the memory card jumpered for 4meg,select nofast
    ram from the workbench I can duplicate drawers until my arm falls
    off. This would indicate a ram problem, would it not? My next step
    is to call GVP today, and se if they have any idea as to what is
    happening.

3705.2the rest of the storySALEM::LEIMBERGERWed May 02 1990 10:0317
    Well judging from the responses to this note I can tell many are
    just dying to hrar the rest of the story. I called GVP an told them
    that I could not duplicate an icon on the workbench, and that the
    memory test for the 2058 card would guru with their hardcard installed,
    but would run ok without their card.Their first statement was"well
    that does not mean it is or card".This led down the path of buss
    loading etc.I was pretty insistent that I felt it was something
    on their board. They had me check my board, and call in the checksums
    of the pals.Sure enough two had been changed.GVP sent them overnight
    at no cost to me an lo,and behold I now have 4meg of memory on the
    2058,and can run the 2058 test with the system stuffed without any
    problem.The same go's for duplicating a drawer.BTW I don't know
    what happens when you duplicate a drawer but it takes a while, and
    I get the feeling it is chugging hard.

    ps. I had random disk not valadated problems when running Day of
    The Viper off my hard drive.now I'll see if this is cured also.

    Well, *I'm* glad to hear that the story has a happy ending (since I
    sold you the additional 2 Mb ;^) Now, what's all this talk about RAM
    for the A3000? Is there an upgrade in your future? 8^)
