3698.0. "Amiga to IBM:WP 5.0 graphic conv." by MQOFS::LEDOUX (Reserved for Future Use) Fri Apr 20 1990 01:00

    I am in need of a program that convert Amiga graphic (IFF) to
    almost any type of IBM the Word perfect (Graphcnv.exe) can
    understand.
    I taught that GIF was acceptable but unfortunately the
    Word Perfect convert program didn't accept it.
    Is there any conversion program available out there?
    (.pic, .wpg, or PCpaint type?)

    Sorry, I know nothing about IBM graphic, not much about
    Amiga either. What I ask may be very obvious to certain
    but not for me... Input welcomed.

    I don't want to use this feature for me, just a friend asked
    me for one specific application. Don't beat me for mentionning
    the big blue name on this conference.. please..

    Vince.

    If you or your friend have access to the Messy-DOS version of
    DPaint-II, there's a program called convert that comes with it.
    It can convert IFF-ILBM files to TIFF format, something that
    Word 5.0 likes and probably WP, too.

    Maybe FBM (Fuzzy Bitmaps) can create a suitable format for WP, I
    dunno. It would be helpful, if you could tell us what kind of graphic
    formats are handled by WP.

    Regards,

    Re:-.1

    Hi Christian,

    Unfortunately I don't have access to the MS-Dos version of DpaintII,
    I didn't even knew it exist. I taught DPaintII (or 3) was made solely
    for Amiga.

    As for TIFF graph format, I know WordPerfect5.0 does accept it.
    The WP\graphcnv.exe used with the /h switch list the compatible format.

    Like I mentioned before, It can convert TIFF, lotus123, Macintosh,
    .PIC, DrHalo, PCpaint, PCbrush and few others less known. I can't
    remember. However .GIF is not in the list, hence my problem.
    The graphcnv program gives me a file format error.

    Anybody have a program that can convert either .GIF or IFF to one of
    the above mentionned format?

    Is the convert.exe program mentioned by <CB> in the previous reply
    be legaly uploaded?

    Thanks again,  Vince.

    Thanks again,  Vince.
3698.3No can do...FRAMBO::BALZERChristian Balzer DTN:785-1029Fri Apr 20 1990 15:308
    Re: .2

    Nah, convert.exe is a part of MS-DOS DPaint, so EA copyrights apply.

    I'll check out FBM tonite... Type to ya on monday

3698.4FBM is the ticket...FROCKY::BALZERChristian Balzer DTN:785-1029Wed Apr 25 1990 15:455

    Oh BTW, I checked FBM, and yes, it does support the PCX format.
    So go and get it...

3698.5Bad file somewhere.MQOFS::LEDOUXReserved for Future UseMon Apr 30 1990 20:4114
    Hi again <CB>

    I tried the FRSOLD::AMIGA_BINARIES note 189 to 204 to get
    FBM. (all 16 parts of them)
    They SHAR OK, UU OK and give me a .ZOO OK, but on a list
    I get about 25 files before getting a "zoo file corrupted".
    I tried twice with the same result.
    I assume that some file must be bad somewhere.
    Anybody know where I can a good copy of FBM?

    I really need that IBM graphic capability from IFF files.

    Thanks in advance,  Vince.

3698.7Still looking.MQOFS::LEDOUXReserved for Future UseFri May 04 1990 17:4117
    I got FBM from FF disk 334 and it definitely doesn't do
    what I want to do.

    First: You need some kind of compiler (Manx or Lattice) to
           "compile" some file named Makefile and other source
           to get it to work.
    Second: According to the docs, it can read PCX files but
           cannot write them.
    It says however that future release will write PCX as well
    as TIFF.

    I don't have Manx nor Lattice, I definitely won't spend
    $300 for those just to get some graphics on the IBM.

    Indeed I am still looking...
