3543.0. "New Shareware CAD Package - PLANS" by CGOFS::CADAMS (Clint Adams - Calgary, Canada) Fri Mar 02 1990 17:00

    I have just uploaded a new Shareware CAD Package to
    TAPE::USER2:[UPLOAD]. It's called PLANS.LZH and is a very good package.
    It does most of the things that Draw 2000 does. For those of you who
    aren't serious enough about CAD to pay big bucks but still want some CAD
    capability, this is worth a look.

3543.1PLANS vs mCAD?NITMOI::WITHERSAnother Hallmark Moment. -Al BundyMon Mar 26 1990 17:487
    How good is this in comparison to mCAD? I am going to play around with
    some design work and the operative word is play so purchasing X-CAD is
    not an option. I was going to download mCAD but is PLANS better? Or
    are they close enough where it is more-or-less personnal preference?

3543.2Interlace onlyYUPPY::PEGLEYFri Apr 06 1990 09:185
    I had a look at PLANS. It looks good, but only works in Interlace
    mode, so flickers like crazty on my 1084 monitor. I ahve not seen
    MCAD, but if this works in med-res, I might have a look at it.

3543.3Interlace too.AYOV28::ATHOMSONC'mon, git aff! /The Kelty ClippieFri Apr 06 1990 12:384
    I'm certain that MCad is also interlace only.

3543.4LEDS::ACCIARDILarger than life, and twice as uglyFri Apr 06 1990 12:4611

    If you can find a file called EDS_ICONS on the net (look in TAPE),
    I included a system-configuration file with colors that should
    minimize interlace flicker. Copy the system-configuration file to the
    devs: directory of your boot device.

    Also experiment with the brightness and contrast controls on your
    monitor.

3543.5Printer support?NAVIER::MELLITZFri Apr 06 1990 20:563
    What type of printer support does PLANS have?

    Re: .5

    PLANS creates HPGL output, so with the PLT: handler (available from
    several EasyNet locations, FTP sites, comp.binaries.amiga archives
    and Fish disks) you can create output at whatever resolution your
    printer (-driver) can handle.

3543.7Where's PLT: handler?NAVIER::MELLITZMon Apr 09 1990 17:278
    I search wjg::amiga and crista::amiga for *plt* with no luck. Any
    idea hwat the PLT: handler is called or where specifically it is?
    Also, is there anything special about installing a handler?

    Thanks,
    Rich

    Re: .7, .8

    Nah, don't try *PLOT*, all these programs have nuttin to do with
    PLT:. ;-)

    Since it seems that noone has uploaded it to TAPE:: (though I'm
    sure it's on one of the newer Fish disks), I uploaded PLT.ZOO to
    TAPE""::USER2:[UPLOAD]

    The documentation is good and the installation is pretty
    straightforward.

    Have fun,
