3531.0. "Scene Generator Reviewed..." by SHARE::DOYLE () Tue Feb 27 1990 13:46

	After seeing this product demo in one of the FFdisks, I purchased it.
     	The product is called SCENE GENERATOR, and is put out by NATURAL
	GRAPHICS.
	 The documentation is a scant 12 pages long, but the program is so
        straight forward, that it's enough.
	 For those who haven't seen the demo, this program renders landscapes
	using fractals, the results can be extremely realistic.
	The controls are in the form of pull down menus as well as keyboard
	commands that allow you to manipulate a scene to you're liking.
	The scene is created based on entering a seed number (1-9999).
	So you are limited to 9999 base sceneries.
	However from there you can alter things such as Land Height,(0-9999).
	Altering Land Height will allow you to define the land masses as
	500-Foothills,1000-Average mountains,2000-Moderately steep mountains,
	9999-Spikes and any number inbetween.
 	You may also define water levels, greenery levels, Snow levels, and
	have the choices of whether or not to include the shades of green,
	brown, gray, or wether or not to have snow,water,water texture,clouds
	and beaches.
	Next you can also adjust the colors used in the picture through a simple
	palette requester that includes a range command for spreading out the
        colors evenly.
	Finally there is the light source.. You may adjust it to 1 of 9
        predifined positions.
	 Rendering can be done in 3 modes Preview,Med detail, Hi detail.
	Hi-detail takes about five min. to complete.
	 The picture then can be saved in a number of resolutions (all variants
	of lo-res).
	 Included in the package is a registration card, and an offer to
        purchase clip art disks (in interlace and some in ham), of assorted
	animals, structures, trees, and plants for $24.95.
	 All in all a purchase I'm quite happy with.

    	(P.S. - After createing a few scenes, I imported them to D-paint III
    	 and showed them in Interlace, WOW! they came out real nice.)

3531.1higher res possible?SALEM::LEIMBERGERWed Feb 28 1990 06:574
    Ed,
    	Is it possible to take the results into PixMate,and raise the
    resolution.Of course this could not be done to ham pics.

3531.2I'd think so, but....SHARE::DOYLEWed Feb 28 1990 11:2110

    I'm not familiar with PixMate, but I've been able to manipulate the images
    into different resolutions with Transfer24.
    Also, the resolutions that this product saves in are all Lo-Res 32 color.
     The only difference being Overscan to get rid of the border.
    To convert these images to HAM, they have to be imported into a program
    like Photon Paint, or Transfer24.
    Also D-Paint III manipulates the pictures nicely.
