3402.0. "the ultimate maxed-out AMIGA system" by EUCLID::OWEN (OUCH! Quit it.) Mon Jan 29 1990 16:29

Well, this was discussed briefly at the end of our lunch, so I figured
I'd start a note on it.

What I want to read here is your idea of the the ultimate impressive
Amiga system. If money were no object and you were limited only by
what already exists in the market, what would you put together to make
all of your friends ohh & ahh.

What hardware would you need? What software would you run?

Be creative, this should be a real fun note to read a few months down the
line.

Don't forget an optical mouse, tape drive backup system, a
postscript COLOR printer and a plotter, Fostex 6301 Personal
Monitor speakers, Digiview Gold AND a hi-res FrameGrabber.

Throw in a stereo sampler and voice recognition software. Hang a
bunch of stuff off the midi port....and while you're at it a
Kurta tablet and maybe Mediaphile Hardware/Software and a lot of
video gear.

It is difficult to create the "Best" Amiga without knowing what
it is going to be used for. Some options exclude the use of other options.
Anyway, let's see ...

Jeeze Steve. Looks like you got lots of good stuff :-)

Add a 19 inch color monitor to the lists - one that handles all 4096 colors,
better yet all xx million from the mimetics 24 bit board...

While dreaming, don't forget the limit on the number of usable Amiga
slots. I assume one would want to position the BridgeBoard such that
the number of Amiga slots is maximized and take advantage of the GVP
A3001 68030 board's 32-bit disk controller and expansion memory to keep
Amiga slots free for such things as Ethernet and communications lines.

Do you really want CGA or monochrome for the pc side of the AT
bridgeboard? If not, then toss in a VGA and nice Color Monitor
for it (or a switch box if you're cheap). And of course you'll
want to get the stereo card for those pc games that support it.
And a serial card for connecting the amiga flight simulator games
to the pc versions. And you need lots more harddisks for both
sides :-) you can never have too many of those... after all, what
do you do when your main harddrive dies?

Oddly enough, CBM may be among the first to ship 68040 systems. My
latest issue of EETimes has a two page ad announcing the Moto '040.
Under the huge banner 'Guess who's just turned '40' was a list that
included the likes of HP, Apollo, UniSYS, and Commodore. Apple was not
    listed.

Also shaow was a bar chart showing the relative performance of the '040
compared to the Intel '486 and the Sparc RISC chip. The '040 looks
    like a winner.

How about adding a DEC VRE01 19" EL Flat Panel Monitor?

And a LK250-C Keyboard (the new one that works with IBM AT
computers)?

That would look pretty cool.

If its the one I think it is, then its a 19" monitor that is a couple
    of inches thick.

You can stand it upright on its base; Prop it against a wall; or
hang it on a wall or divider.
