3311.0. "Help for AMIGA500 connections and more" by PEKING::NONDEP () Tue Jan 09 1990 15:04

    Hi There,

I've just bought an Amiga500 in France and have used it in France
connected to my parents TV set via a simple connector cable called
Peritel -Peritelevision-. I'm now in England and i wanted to do
the same. Here in the UK the only tv that have that kind of plug-
something like spark connector are 21 inches large and expensive.
Is there an easy way to connect the machine to an ordinary color
tv that would work in England. I could then sell the tv when i leave
the U.K. or give it away....

As you might have guessed by the question i'm completely ignorant
in all the technical side of transmitting data so please treat me
as an idiot who knows nothing at all in your replies.....!

I'm actually looking for a way of accessing public domaine software,
database, wordprossesor and games of course. Here again i'm a novice.
Is there anyone who can help me ? I'm accessing this conference
via an ALL-IN-1 captive account from a VT340 in case this is of
    some use.

Finally it's not really an amiga issue but it will help me using
the conference more efficiently. Once i've read some topics and
replies it still comes out on as unseen. The numbers don't seem to
decrease. Someone sugested to put set seen, seems to work but it is
then the whole conference which appears to be seen. The other thing
is once i've set seen if there is something new i don't know where to
    look for it.

Well i hope everyone is having fun,and thanks in advance for your
    tips and help, Patrick

Humm, I'm sure someone will correct me, but isn't the Peritelevision connector
one and the same thing as a 'SCART' connector (ie a 21ish pin connector about
4cms long). If so, then you can get TV's here with the same connector - I have a
Ferguson TV with a Peritelevision connector which I am currently assuming is a
SCART anyway:-)

On the same subject, I am also trying to get hold of a portable TV (here in the
UK) with a suitable RGB connector to use with my A500. Now, there are plenty of
portable with DIN RGB connectors, but I was told by a dealer at the weekend that
these are normally not suitable 'cos they are TTL RGB; can anyone confirm or
deny this? This dealer also said that a TV with a SCART connector is the only
way to do it properly (other than buying an analog monitor of course!)

Well now, if you just type 'set seen', then you will mark every entry in the
conference as seen. You might try 'set seen/before=1-dec-1989' instead, which
will just leave the past month's entries unseen.

Once you have seen (or 'set seen') all the current entries, then when new
entries are added, you will see them the next time you enter the conference
(dont forget to use 'next unseen', or the KP-comma key to see just the new
entries).

Hope this helps,

Simon

3311.2 Re TV connection and morePEKING::NONDEPWed Jan 10 1990 06:5713

    Simon,
Thanks for your tips, it seems indeed that the peritelevision
is a scart connector and i will try the set seen before command
    latter this week.

As you are trying to by an other tv set is it of a better resolution
or can you do other things with it i might then be interested in
buying the same kind of tv set.

And again a non amiga issue how do you manage to select some part of
one's reply and reply to it underneath.

Not really - I just want to stop my kids taking over our main (and currently
only) TV when I'm trying to watch the news or whatever:-)

Well, I dont actually use NOTES itself to write replies, however, I believe the
current version of notes automatically includes the text of the note you were
reading when you type 'reply'. If this is not so, then try 'reply/extract'

As far as replying while copying part of another reply, I make the one
to be copied current (on-screen) and type REPLY. Since TPU is invoked
in a two-window format, I can just change windows, cut my text (no
mouse work involved; HEY, this ain't an AMIGA :^), and paste it into my
reply window with appropriate additions (>, >>, etc.)
