3309.0. "Quarterback/Supradrive problems" by EUCLID::OWEN (OUCH! Quit it.) Tue Jan 09 1990 12:54

	I have a quick question. I've been told that Quarterback
	will NOT work with Supra Drives. Is this true?

	If so, then why? I sure hope that someone can disprove
	this statement becaust I've heard alot of good things about
	Quarterback and was planning to buy it.

	Thanks Alot

3309.1Haven't heard of any compatibility problemsCSC32::K_APPLEMANTue Jan 09 1990 14:065
    Haven't heard anything about Quarterback not working with any kind of
    drive. Quarterback should work with any AmigaDos formatted drive but
    let's hear from some Supra owners who have Quarterback.

3309.2QuarterBack & Supra SCSI controller work OKDECWET::TBAKERTom Baker - DECwest CSSETue Jan 09 1990 17:558
	I don't have a SupraDrive but I do have their SCSI controller.

	A500 -> Supra SCSI -> Adaptec 4000a -> RD53 (Micropolis 1325)

	QuarterBack works fine with this setup.

3309.3If Quarterback can't read it, nothing else will be able toTLE::RMEYERSRandy MeyersTue Jan 09 1990 18:4210
Re: .0

Quarterback does normal AmigaDOS Filesystem I/O to the disk being backed
up or restored. If Quarterback can't read that disk, I suspect that just
about any application won't be able to use the disk, either.

Quarterback does do "low level" I/O to the disks it saves the backup
on. I find plausible that it might not be able to save a backup to
some exotic device, but Quarterback claims to be able to save a backup
on any disk device that has a mountlist entry.

    Re -1

    That's encouraging.  I'm running a supra controller with a Quantum 40s
    prodrive.

    Maybe I'll go get quarterback afterall....

    Anyone else?  Anyone?  Anyone?

3309.5maybe bug in old Supra softwareDECWET::TBAKERTom Baker - DECwest CSSETue Jan 09 1990 20:209
	Now that I've thought about it a while, I think there was something
	in the QuarterBack documentation about a bug in an older version of
	Supra software that caused problems, 5.something I think. I'm
	running Series II v.1.09f of the Supra software now without problems.

	I'll check the QuarterBack docs when I get home.

3309.6from the manualDECWET::TBAKERTom Baker - DECwest CSSETue Jan 09 1990 23:3020
    from page 25 of my QuarterBack manual:

    "ATTENTION SUPRA HARD DISK OWNERS - Supra's Version 5.1 hard disk
     driver (required for the Fast File System) has a known problem which
     causes THE DRIVER to crash, with Guru Meditation number 3, while
     running with QuarterBack. Contact Supra for the newest release of
     their driver (Currently 5.3). Unfortunately, the same thing
     happened when Supra first released their autoboot hard disk drive.
     Supra subsequently revised this driver also, correcting the problem.
     Contact Supra for more information."

    	I believe that I have the most recent versions of both
    	QuarterBack (ver. 2.3) and Supra (Series II ver. 1.09f)
    	software which seem to work. Here's a couple of phone numbers
    	if you want to make sure:

    		Supra tech support     - (503) 967-9081
    		Central Coast Software - (303) 526-1030 (QuarterBack)

    Thanks a ton. It sounds like I'm pretty safe then, huh? I'm running
    the supra software SeriesII ver 1.09f.

    I think I'll be getting Quarterback tomorrow.

3309.8QB 4.0TCC::HEFFELPigs and PoniesFri Apr 06 1990 01:5313
    Since this is the closest thing I could find to a Quarterback note,
    I'll put this here.

    I got a letter from Central Coast Software announcing the release of
    Quarterback 4.0. Current QB owners can upgrade by sending their
    original disks and a check for $10 to CCS.

    I don't have the time to type in all the added features, but it looks
    like they've polished it up quite a bit.

    I plan to order mine soon.

    	This is the only type American Football Game that I have seen
    	on this conference that I have seen (presuming that Quarterback)
    	is an American Football game.

    	Could someone please explain what Quaterback is and how well
    	it plays and is it Arcade or Mind Game.

    	Starved of good Football Games in the UK...Help...

re .9

Sorry to disapoint you, but quarterback is a backup/restore utility used to
backup your very full/fragmented hard-disks.

Stan.

P.S I like it.
