3272.0. "Wshell" by SALEM::LEIMBERGER () Fri Dec 29 1989 07:43

    I am going to install Wshell on my drive tonight(went soft an bought
    only 40meg. money did'nt bother me,but waiting a week did) and can
    use some help.The biggest problem is knowing what to keep,and what
    to disgard.For example,has anybody used the builtin commands,and
    removed the equivilent commands for Amigados(ARP1.3)? Can I dump
    Shell-seg or not? Are there any advantages over using conman
    mounted as the CNC: device. I have pretty much decided to use Wshell
    all the time,so I want to get the most efficient setup I can build
    with it. I did not realize how powerful(at the cost of a higher
    learning curve) this shell is. Of course this being my first crack
    at configuring my work enviornment with the hard drive only complicates
    matters. I am running the GVP hardcard partitioned off into 2 20meg
    partitions. Any suggestions,help,comments are welcome. At the present
    I am lost in a sea of data.

    PS: For what it is worth I made a mistake going 40meg. A week from
    now(when I would have gotten my 100meg) I will be kicking myself
    for not waiting!

    Bill,

    I'm using WShell for 1.5 years now and simply couldn't live without
    it.
    Since you now own a (albeit MUCH to small ;-) hard disk, DON'T remove
    any CBM C: commands!
    WShell will use it internal commands, but can overide them and use
    the next ones on the PATH in case of trouble (no incompatitbilty
    known at this time).
    And you want to mount ConMan in as much variations it comes, since
    mounting CNC: etc, doesn't take much memory and ConMan will be hanging
    around anyway...
    And no, you don't need Shell-Seg, but as above don't delete anything
    you might wanna use at a later point in time...

    If you have more questions, I fear you'll have to wait 'till next
    year if you want answers from me. ;-)

    Happy new year Amigoids,

3272.2to Shell or not to ShellSALEM::LEIMBERGERFri Jan 05 1990 07:2723
    RE -1
    	Now that I have it up and running I have to agree. I am sending
    for ver 1.2 today. Wshell is probably one of the best buys in the
    Amiga community. I find however it is not a big seller at the stores.
    The copy I bought had been on the shelf a very long time. My thoughts
    on this are"most users especially the new ones have no idea of the
    power of this shell".Of course on the net we also have several PD
    shell's that are very good.I would like to see my local dealer put
    wshell on at least one of his systems.The problem is that at first
    glance it appears to be very complex,and in truth it is. However
    Bill did a great job of making most of this complexity transparent.
    	The type of packages the new user tends to lean toward are the
    workbench driven ones,like Diskmaster etc. While these are good
    tools,and help sell many Amiga's they tend to hide the inherent
    power of AmigaDos. I bought my Wshell manual into work,and several
    people that use DCL on the Vax,an are very good at writing com
    files were quite impressed with it.They had no Idea that the Amiga
    operating system could offer things like PIPES etc. These are basically
    Adventurous type people,and were excited by the challenge of
    intergrating Arexx,ScriptIt,Wshell,and workbench into a custom
    interface of their very own. I would like to see Wshell right alongside
    Arexx in version 1.4 .

3272.3WShell V2.0 Upgrades?ULTRA::KINDELBill Kindel @ LTN1Fri Jan 10 1992 16:315
    Now that WShell 2.0 is available, is there an upgrade path from 1.x for
    those of us who didn't choose to pay for all the intermediate updates?

    I've been VERY happy with WShell on 1.3, but that version doesn't
    fully get along with V2.04 of AmigaDOS.

If it exists (and I believe it does), you have to order it from Bill Hawes
direct. Contact information is in the WShell manual.

If you registered the product (and haven't moved since), you should have
gotten a postcard announcing 2.0 and the upgrade policy.

3272.5Amiga keyboard keycodes?DECWET::DAVISMark W. Davis 206.865.8749Fri Jan 10 1992 20:317
    Speaking of Wshell. Can someone point me to a listing of the keycodes
    for the Amiga keyboard. The WShell 2.0 manual alludes to a file
    containing the keycodes but it is not present on the disk. WShell 2.0
    is GREAT!!!
