3228.0. "Swords of Twilight" by SHARE::DOYLE () Mon Dec 18 1989 15:14

The following is a review of "Swords of Twilight" from Electronic Arts

Swords of Twilight is a fantasy game.
The version I have is for the Amiga, and the only indication for
other Computers that I've seen is on the inside of the Documentation.
There it say's "For other Computers see reference cards".
So I'm not shure what graphics mode the Msdos version supports.
"S.O.T." takes place in a medieval type atmosphere, with dragons,
wizards, and the usual populous found in this type of "world".
There are 3 players at all times (unless they get killed), any
not controled by a human player, will be controled by the computer.
You can choose 3 of 32 characters, you can choose from Knights,
	Champions, and Maji.
You are limited to one champion, and one maji per group, although
if you rather have 2-3 Knights in your group you may do so.
All the characters have there own personalities, strength and weakness.
This affects how they interact with other people and how the people
	interact with you.
You may bring a human player(s) in at any time to take over one or
both of the other roles, you are all allowed to interact with each
other and others. You can choose to threaten, be friendly, cautious or
	openly hostile.
All the controls are menu driven, except for instances where
you must type in the name corresponding with the Crest shown on the
	screen.
You have six worlds to explore, you're main objective is to rid
all the worlds of "Shadow",(although there are multiple quests in each
of the worlds to complete) wich if you fail will engulph you're own
	world.
Traveling through to different worlds is done by means of "Gates".
These are actually caves gaurded by dragons , this is where the copy
protection is .. you must answer the dragons question in (match name
with the crest shown) order to get by him onto the "Rainbow Road".
*Note - Attacking the dragon results in barbecued Knights.
Once on the rainbow road you choose which world to get off by clicking
	You're fire button.
	You get hungry,tired,and sleepy.
You're attitude towards other's will be reflected in they're attitude
towards you, and you're reputation spreads wether for good or bad.
I'm enjoying this game, and like the option of having friends join in
the game play if they feel like it, without having to start over.
There is a save feature that works at any time while "Outside"
    	a establishment.
The disks themselves are unprotected, and the Protection scheme
only occurs when traveling from world to world.

	  Hope this covers it somewhat.
							Ed

P.S. If anyone has this game already, let me know ....
I'm stuck in "Arcadia", I can't find The Blackened Tower.

I got the game from a firend of mine to use while he's away on break. He likes
the game. I don't.

My major problem with this game is:

o It's menu driven
o	The menus are organized wierd
o	It's slow. I'm playing on a 2500 and it goes slow, especially when it
loads up the poeple you meet. Haven't tried to play off RAM: yet.
o	The computer is stupid. Big surprise!
o	It PLAYS slowly...

I like the concept, and I sorta like how its working, but the mechanics are
flawed in my mind.

Ah well... Anne Westfall and John whats-his-name have done a nice job, but it
could have used more work.

John

P.S. It ain't a pirated copy either. It is loaned in the true sense. Not worth
my effort to copy it.
