3225.0. "BattleTech" by CRISTA::LEIMBERGER (I have my marbles now I want yours) Mon Dec 18 1989 09:41

Anyone else playing BattleTech on the Amiga ? I started playing this
past weekend,and was wondering how others are doing with the game.
For those that have not seen the game it supports limited sound,and
has a graphic interface. I reminds me of faieryTale in the way you
have to move around.I am just getting to the point where It is getting
interesting.(lived long enough to explore)I played all weekend,and am
looking forward to playing tonight.Also plan to hunt down some of the
books supporting the boardgame.

    I have this game.. I finished off a couple of months back.
    I really enjoyed this game also ( although I read other notes that felt
    kind of dissapionted in the graphics and sound. ).
    	If you get stuck let me know.
        On another note, a new game by a different company is out for the
    I.*.M. called Mechwarrior.....
    	I hope there is a Amiga Version..

I agree the graphics are not up to what they could be,but they are
acceptable as far as following the action.I really like the concept,and
have to give credit to the designers.I would buy another in an instant
even if it had the same quality graphics.I much perfer,the animation
given over a breataking still,that grows stale on the third pass.

thanks! I may have to do that,but I called the hot line to get me started.

That would be nice.If you get a number maybe we could push them toward the
amiga.Of course two calls might not be enough to change the world.

3225.3Hello SCI-FI-FansFRSOLD::ZIMMERMANNRalf, DTN *861-3236, @FRSTue Dec 19 1989 09:4110
    Yeah,
    i just bought the books of the Gray Death-Trilogy by William H. Keith
    jr. 1. Decision At Thunder Rift, 2. Mercenary's Star, 3. The Price Of
    Glory. On the cover 'BATTLETECH (r)' is marked as a registered
    trademark. It would be nice to play a game, where you control such a
    mech-warrior like an aircraft in a flight simulation. mean more action-
    like not strategic-like like BATTLEFORCE.

     This game gave me the impression of an action oriented game, (but I'd
    still would like to use my head a little). I'll have to look up the ad
    again.

    There is a sort of battlemech simulator you might be interested.
    It is by Ralph Reed. I've seen it here on the net somewhere. It's
    a shareware game worth the $25 he asks. You can create your own
    characters and can have them fight singly or add them to companies
    you create. Look for something like bforce.arc It was on a couple
    of fish disks.
3225.7New Version of Battleforce available.SHARE::DOYLEWed Dec 20 1989 11:225
     There is an update on a newer Fish disk ,( 260-280?).
     I believe they've just been put up on tape..., For some reason my old
    version use to "GURU" on me before I could really get started.
     Also the Interlace flicker drove me nuts.

3225.8BattleForce, the PD game. My ViewsSTARCH::STOFFELThu Dec 21 1989 18:4637
I have Battle Force, both the first version and the newer version. I haven't
gotten the newest version of Fred Fish, but I'm trying...

I like the older version more than the newer version for several reasons.

o	You don't have to go through the trouble of making a mech character
	and then having him assigned a random mech of random weight. You
	and a friend can just "go and shoot" in the mechs of your choice.

The newer version is better because:

o	the filerequestors are much much faster. have you ever waited for a
	directory of 300+ mechs to load off a floppy? It sucks to say the
	least. His new requestors keep the directory in memory. You load
	it once, and it stays until you goto another directory.

o	It has more and better terrain features.

o	You can play by yourself and fight a computer controlled mech(s).

o	It kinda neat being able to make characters and have a campaign when
	you want to. Gives you something to strive for. And it makes you
	watch and take care of your mech more carefully. Not more death
	charges in a 40 tonner against a 100 tonner!

	The problem is you are forced into this mode. on the newer version.

Overall this game is great! Lotsa fun to blow your friends head off in the
first shot of the game! Really pisses them off. I'd recomend this game to
anybody who likes tactical games.

Have fun!!

John (aka. mjollnir - 100 ton mech, 2 autocannon 20s... hehehe)

3225.9NO GURUS and more Mech stuff.SHARE::DOYLETue Dec 26 1989 13:5813
    I just got the newer version of "BattleForce" extracted and actually was
    able to start playing ;'), I like it.....
     I'm sending in my $25...
         By the way, a hobby shop in the Royal Ridge Mall in Nashua, N.H.
    sells ALOT of FRP board games (The most I've seen in one place ),
    as well as figurines (sp?), game accessories (dice,transparent hex sheets,
    etc...) for BattleTech as well as other RPGs.
    	 I even saw some Mechwarrior Blueprints in there.
    	 Not to mention Mechwarrior Models, $5-$15 (bought one myself).
     I believe the name of store is "The Hobby Emporium".

    There is a small ad-part in my BattleTech SCI-FI-Books, it says there
    is a Computer-Game from INFOCOM, another will be published SOON.

    Is this true??

3225.11YES!!!!SALEM::LEIMBERGERWed Dec 27 1989 06:216
    RE .10 I started this note as a result of playing the Infocom game
    Battletech.I am not sure if Infocom is going to support the next
    version on the amiga or not.The game sells for $49.45 list.I now
    have 3 mechs,and am looking for a fourth member for my party trained
    in Mech's to a high level.

3225.12It _finally_ works (BattleForce)FROCKY::BALZERChristian Balzer DTN:785-1029Wed Dec 27 1989 10:1612
    Well, as far as BattleForce is concerned, the version on Fish #273
    is the _first_ one to run on my KS1.3/A2620/PAL Amiga without strange
    and colorful Gurus...
    However, I'm still reluctant to register and pay for the ShareWare
    version, since this game is really a sucker CPU wise since it busy
    waits (probably polls for mouse movements etc) and does other
    "ungraceful" things (like a sharp crack, when it returns the audio
    channels at the end...)
    Anybody out there who is or can get in touch with that Ralph Reed
    fella???

    Re: -.1

    Hi CB,

    	I work just a couple of blocks from Ralph Reed, and will be happy
    to relay any messages/etc to him... but... I don't seem to be having
    the problems you mention... Doesn't seem to make sense that having PAL
    slow down execution or make your audio crack on release.

    Anyway, for the next two weeks or so, I'll still be working here on
    base just a stone's throw away from Mr. Reed. I'll be happy to pass on
    any messages or just get you in touch with him. I've found him to be
    very helpful in the past.
