3020.0. "Question - RX23 @720K?" by DWOMV2::CAMPBELL () Sat Oct 14 1989 23:52

    Does anyone know if an RX23 can be made to r/w at 720K or 880K?
    Would be a nice way to write some disks that could be r/w by Ami.

3020.1If MS Dos should workDPDMAI::ANDERSONAThis space for rentSun Oct 15 1989 00:1916
    If this RX23 is on a MS Dos compatable machine it should be able to R/W
    but I do not know if it will be able to format it. Cross Dos or PC
    Copy with PC Patch II will take care of the Amiga side. I formated
    one with Cross Dos and at one of my customers P.C. I ran Chkdsk with no
    errors and I was able to read the files. I have not actually moved files
    between the two. This was on a 1.44 Mb 3.5 inch but I do not know the
    make, it was on a Telex/Memorex P.C.

    I also made a 5.25 inch 720K floppy on my Amiga just to see how a
    VaxMate would react. Chkdsk saw 720K but the driver put the RX33 in
    double step mode and I could only get to 360K of the disk. But then a
    720K 5.25 inch drive is invalid for MS Dos. While 720K on 3.5 inch is
    valid.

3020.2Why are you having problems with 720kGIDDAY::MORANWed Oct 18 1989 00:008
    I use Dos2Dos on the Amiga side to format 720k disks so I can transfer
    files from the Net with no problems.

    The vaxmate I use aceepts the 720k disk and I can read/write etc.
    with no worries.

    Shaun.

    oops....

    Sorry, I just went back and noticed that I didn't specify all the info.
    (too many late hours?) Anyway, what I would like to be able to do is:

    	1.  R/W a 3.5 disk on a Vaxstation 3100 (RX23 1.4M)
    	2.  Put 3.5 in Ami and R/W.

    Question is, knowing that Ami's 3.5 can't R/W 1.4M, can the RX23 in
    the Vaxstation R/W at 720K or something that Ami can R/W.

    Sorry for the vague initial question.

    Yes. Just format a disk with PcF720 or something similar on the
    Amiga and take it to work. The product PCDISK (came with VaxPC
    distribution) will read/write your 720K floppy in the RX23.

    I tried to use VaxPC to format a 720K floppy but couldn't make it
    work but the above worked great. I read the floppies with PcC720
    when I got them back to my Amiga.

3020.6Writing @720K from DecStation 212?OTOFS::S_SCHMIDTStu SchmidtTue Nov 21 1989 14:279
    How about writing in 720K mode on a DECstation 212? I know I can
    format and write the floppy on the Ami using CrossDOS, and can read
    already written 720K floppies on the Ami, but I'm hearing conflicting
    stories about writing from MSDOS on the RX23.

    Thanks,
