3009.0. "Help needed converting" by SHARE::DOYLE () Wed Oct 11 1989 13:41

    On the Vaxmate running "Harvard Graphics" you can export to 3 types
    of pic-files.
    		  1.) PFS: Professional Write
    		  2.) Encapsulated Postscript
    	          3.) HPGL

     Are there any conversion programs to convert these to IFF.
     I know of Gif, but I havn't been able to find a Gif program
     to convert the above formats to gif.
     						Thanks;

    If you had Draw2000 or XCad for the Amiga, you could read in HPGL files
    and save them in IFF format. I don't know of any HPGL to IFF
    converters, although we do have HPGL to Postscript and IFF to
    PostScript converters.

    One thing that might do the trick is HiJack, the commercial conversion
    program. It has been discussed here elsewhere. It's available for
    MS-DOS and should be out for the Amiga (at least RSN). I believe
    that it will generate EPS files from IFF for you.

    Another solution might be Professional Draw.

    	I checked into hijack, and its good but $$$ expensive (>$100).
     I was really looking for something a little cheaper.

    Re: .2,.4

    The EPS stuff has been already discussed either here or on UseNet,
    and since I vaguely remember it being a subset of PostScript, you
    might get away with a PS2IFF converter. But where you get such a
    beasty beats me. ;-)

Encapsulated Postscript isn't a subset of postscript.  It's full-blown
postscript that is carefully written (or machine generated) so that it
can be dropped in to another postscript file at any point.

Programs that read EPS files don't really know what the postscript
commands are doing. Instead, the EPS file contains a bitmap image
of the results of the postscript commands. The editor or desktop
publishing program shows the bitmap when you are laying out the page,
but send the actual postscript to the printer to get the final
output.
3009.7re .0 color or not ?SALEM::LEIMBERGERThu Oct 12 1989 06:445
    Professional Page can generate EPS files,but still is not able to
    read them. I hope this changes in the future.The files in .0 are
    they color or what? I have little knowledge of other picture formats
    that are in use on the IBM,and Mac.

    These are in color, assorted pie graphs and such. However the color
    isn't important considering that a quick fill in D-paint III will repair
    them to there natural state.
        On the IBM side.
     I've tried a few "Gif capture programs" But where one succeeded in
    capturing the picture, it wouldn't convert.
     All of them are for "EGA" captures or "VGA" captures.
     All I got right now is a "CGA Interpeted" Vaxmate.
     So I'm not even shure if it captured it correctly.

The newest version of Professional Page can import Encapsulated
Postscript files. I don't know how it displays them though. I
know that with some Mac desktop packages, they only display them
as reference rectangles...not much help to you.
