2995.0. "XMODEM from node CVG, HELP!!!" by LINCON::MGAINES () Fri Oct 06 1989 17:23

I copied XMODEM from node CVG:: work1:[campanella.kits], and
    I'm having some problems.

I defined xmodem$dir to my specific directory and then executed
the com procedure xmodem.com as instructed. When I try to execute
XMODEM I get the following error message.

    	$XMODEM "ILLEGAL COMBINATION" /NORECEIVE/

    	$XMODEM/SEND "IMAGE FILE $1$DUA100:[SYS0.SYSCOMMON] [SYSLIB]
LIBRTL.EXE IDENT MISMATCH WITH SHAREABLE IMAGE"

    	$XMHELP "UNRECONIZED COMMAND VERB"

I can't see anything I may have missed. Is something possibly
wrong with the com file? The XMODEM com file is quite short
and handles the set command Xmodem.cld stuff. Please help if
    	you can...

2995.1I'm getting there.LINCON::MGAINESFri Oct 06 1989 19:0312

Ok, somethings wrong with the copy from node CVG, I just copied
from node DICKNS, and I'm off and running. Only 1 problem now...

When I use the command Xmodem "filename"/send=text/ymodem/onek and
then using handshake I have "ymodem batch" selected, Xmodem times
out on the VMS end. I select receive ASCII. Is this correct? IF
I use select binary receive, the VMS end bombs out? "%*&**" This
is starting to tick me off!

hey guys/gals I get a message from the vms end stating remote node
is not responding. Funny though, while I was trying some of this
stuff, I started to write note 2995.2. Somehow it got loaded down
to AMY. Anyone that can give me a helping hand, I would appreciate
    it.

Well, if it's XMODEM you want, try the copy on WJG::AMIGA:XMODEM.EXE.

Make it a foriegn command ( xmodem :== $disk:[dir]xmodem ) and try this
with HandShake:

$ xmodem -is file.zoo (to send file from VAX to Amy)
		- now select "TRANSFER->RECIEVE BINARY FILE" from handshake
		  menu.

$ xmodem -ir file.zoo (to send file from Amy to VAX)
		- now select "TRANSFER->TRANSMIT BINARY FILE" from handshake
		  menu.

As far the Ident mismatch, you got a copy for a former VMS version.
Just recompile (if you have the source and not the object) and relink it.

Help needed -

I've been having GREAT difficulty downloading files, from our VAX, to Ami.
Some time ago, before VMS 5.0 days, I don't recall any extreme problems, and
accomplished the task. Something has changed...

The problem is that Ami will only receive when a text file is sent. When binary
files are attempted, Ami times out, waiting...

I've tried a few different versions of XMODEM, and the current version of
VMS is version 5.2... I don't think I can WHAP the Decserver any other ways
than I have... Local Xmodem runs from the SMOKEY X1.1 VT200 Terminal emulator.

I know this has been beat to death, but I couldn't find any specific's for this
particular problem. (Of course the neighbors are at the door, inquiring about
the inability of our phone to ring...:-)!)

All help, sincerely appreciated -
Dave Gregory
