2989.0. "DiskMechanic?" by KYOA::MIANO (I see the N end of a S bound horse) Thu Oct 05 1989 16:31

Has anyone ever heard about a program called DiskMechanic?
Who makes it?
What does it cost?
Is it any good?

I tried it, but the version I have tackles only the old file system.
It is supposed to defragment hard disk, but when I tried it on my
boot partition, it deleted a few files (in ofs), so I put it away
    until they fix the bugs.

I think disk mechanic is a piece of junk. Every time I have tried to
use the backup or sector modification sections, it has corrupted my
hard disk. I didn't know that it only worked on the old file system.
It didn't say so in the manaul. Maybe that is why it corrupts it.

The price is outrageous, but I bought it on the advice of the software
store. The manual is just a very thin pamplet of maybe 6 pages that
was printed on a dot matrix printer and then taken to the Jiffy print
shop. I would expect a lot more for $80.

I will admit that I have bought very few programs in my years of
home computing. Programs like these are the reason I stay away from
the software stores and trade programs instead. When I come across a
good one that is actually worth it's price, I go buy it. Disk
Mechanic definately is NOT worth it's price.
