2982.0. "Sidecar problem" by JGO::LOENDERSLOOT () Wed Oct 04 1989 08:27

I bought a few weeks ago the PCB's (mainboard and interface) from the
Sidecar. With a 5 1/4 drive and a power supply that I already had, I want
to get XT functionality. I connected everything and started up my AMIGA
and the PC/JANUS software. Everything went well until the XT-side starts
to boot from the 5 1/4 drive( A normal XT 360k drive).

I noticed the following symtoms:

The diskdrive LED lighted, the steppermotor turned a few steps and the
floppy motor didn't rotate. And the system reacts with "BOOT FAILURE,press
key for another try". This isn't strange when the motor doesn't run, but

Looking in the circuit schematic of the XT-board I noticed that the
floppy signals "MOTORON and HEADLOAD/IN USE" are not connected from
the board to drive.(Pin 4 and 16 of the Shugart connection). My conclusion
uptill now is that there should be some connections made on the floppydrive
to get the right signals active when the drive is selected. Before I start
messing around in the electronics of the board, I want to be sure that
the drive is configured right. Can somebody help with some information on that.
By the way the drive is working perfectly with the proper hardwareinterface
as a AMIGA drive and the BIOS version of the XT-board is HYDRA bios 2.05

Any help will be appreciated.

                                         Jos van Loendersloot

PS

I found the assembler sources for the CHEAPHD project from NOTE 2657. Both
the older and the newest versions. I will try to upload these together with
the include files in the coming week.
