2981.0. "ALF new offering" by VIVIAN::S_GOLDSTEIN (Steve G...DTN 847-5415 ) Wed Oct 04 1989 07:36

Has anybody sean the new ALF.

I've just been sent the new catologue which has a few surprises..

They has released a new software version V2.0 but also they have
	V1.6.

Included in the new s/w V2.0 is :-
	Backup program
support for all 68000 processors (68010/20/30/40)
support all types of bus (AT-bus,XT-bus,SCSI)
	support for CD-RAM (ROM)
	support for SCSI streamers.
	Prepared for advanced MOVEP transfer
	Prepared for advanced MOVEM transfer
	Prepared for DMA.
	the list goes on...

Also Supports other controllers ie A2090/A2090a
(does this mean that the A2090 now has a tape backup facility?)

They now produce a SCSI controller for all AMI's.
All these controllers have three different versions.
	1) Diskbootable (uses floppy to boot harddrive)
	2) Rebootable (use floppy to boot but if you have Kickstart 1.3
		       will reboot from ram ?)
	3) Autobootable ( Kickstart V1.3 or up )

The price for the A2000 SCSI controller is $371	this is a file card
using 3.5" drives...and they recommend the Quantum ProDrive Drives

Looks like a contoller to kept an eye on.

I received my A.L.F V2.0 upgrade THIS morning. This OR NEXT week
    i plan to install/upgrade my A.L.F. V1.6-system.
    So stay tuned.

BTW, i'm very satisfied with V1.6 . The installation is easy and
and i ran this configuration over now 6 month without any problems.
    I have a OMTI 5527 (RLL)-controller with an adaptor-socket for the
    Amiga-slots and a MICROPOLIS 1325 connected.
Diskperfa says something about 380k read and 250k write on a HEAVY
    fragmented disk
