2965.0. "LN03 <-> Parallel port" by NOBHIL::BODINE_CH () Thu Sep 28 1989 17:45

    I have the good fortune to have access to an LN03 plus. I have
    downloaded the printer driver listed elsewhere in this notes file
    and every thing works well over the serial port.

    You can, however, configure an LN03 for parallel input. This is
    preferable since I don't want to swap cables all the time between
    my modem and my printer. Also, the parallel port is faster than
    the serial port.

    Has anybody hooked up their LN03 to the Amiga parallel port? If
    so, would you be kind enough to post the pinout of the cable you
    used to do it with?

    Thanks for any help.

    I wasn't aware of a parallel option for the LN03.

    You could use a parallel to serial converter...

    If you flip dip switch 1-1 to on, the test sheet that prints out
    tells you that you are now accepting parallel input. Does this mean
    that you are running parallel over the RS232 port or does it mean
    that you need to buy a Centronics board to get parallel protocol
    up and running?

    And if you can run parallel over the serial port, what kind of cable
    would you use between the A1000 and the LN03?

    Somebody must know the LN03 + well enough to answer this question.

    Anybody?

    Hmm,

    interesting, I would suggest a visit to the hardware tech. information
    on the LN03s for this. I can have a look at field service info
    tomorrow (no I don' work for FS), or alternatively someone else somewhere
    may have the answer (or at their finger tips)

    Good thinking John...

    Nice to see people up on the other side of the world.

2965.6A bit late butDPDMAI::ANDERSONAThis space for rentWed Oct 11 1989 01:2419
    This may be a bit late but I looked in the LN03 installation guide this
    morning and it stated that switch position was "parallel (future use)".

    Last weekend I was messing around with a LN03+ driver and CMD. I
    wanted to print some black and white images from Digiview through the
    driver to a file. I was then going to copy to the file to a MS Dos disk
    then take it to the office and print it on a LN03 connected to a Rainbow.

    With the parallel port selected as the printer and CMD redirecting the
    parallel ports output to a file both Posters and Deluxe Photo Lab did
    nothing. Selecting the Serial port under preferences and changing CMD
    to redirect the serial port I got the file from both Deluxe Photo Lab
    and Posters.

    After all that the LN03 got an error 1 which is "Data to Complex". All
    I got was about a 1/8 inch line on top of the paper.

You need more RAM in your LN03. Buy a RAM pack - LN03X-CR.

I thought that the RAM packs were only for downline loaded fonts (not
bitmapped graphics). The LN03+ comes with 1Meg of memory on the mother board.

RE: -2

Yes I found the documentation that said that the parallel option was future
use also but forgot to post that here. I finally set up an A/B switch between
my modem and the LN03. It's not so bad.

Oops, your right. I knew it was RAM somewhere :-)

2965.10It had two Ram packsDPDMAI::ANDERSONAThis space for rentSun Oct 15 1989 02:437
    It had two Ram packs installed.

    Thats ok Iff2ps20 and our office Script Printer (Sales gets all the
    good stuff) did the trick.
