2898.0. "Help with Spirit HDA st506 Needed!!!!" by SHARE::DOYLE () Wed Sep 06 1989 13:16

	Hi,

	I own an Amiga 500 with a "Subsystem 500" with the biult in DF1 disk
 drive.
	I purchased the "Spirit HDA-ST506" hard drive adapter for the A500
awhile back from "ABLE" thinking I could leave both slots open in the
"Subsystem" for expansion.
	All this was awhile back.
	Recentley I got all the "extra" equipment.

	A. 40meg St506 Hard Drive.
	B. Power Supply
	C. WD xt hard drive card.
	D. Box to place the Hard Drive and Power Supply in.

	The first problem I ran into was that my wife had cleaned and tossed
 a bunch of old printouts (in which my "Spirit HDA-ST506" instructions were
 resting in):'< .
	Well, I didn't let that stop me.
	I put together the required cables and hooked the drive into my
 "Subsystem" through the buss pass-thru, booted the include "Spirit" utility
 disk and ran into my second problem.
	All the menu choices (with the exception of exit) were frosted over
 and inaccessable. The message said "Unnable to open device choose EXIT to
 continue...".
	O.K., I suspected compatibility problems.
	I removed the "Subsystem" and hooked the "HDA" directly to my A500.
 Turned the drive on, turned my amiga on, booted the disk, opened the format
 program.
	All the menu's were now clear!!!
	I went to click a the first choice and nothing.
 The program froze all menu choices including exit.
	The strange thing is I can still click the window gadget, get back
 to workbench and open and close windows normally.
	If I click back to the format screen. It's still frozen.

	Any Idea's? I'm Stumped.

	P.S., (I should of gotten an A2090 to go in the subsystem..:'(

						Thanks;
