2897.0. "shell redir prob?" by ALASKA::QUIRICI () Tue Sep 05 1989 19:01

    Has anyone encountered a problem with output redirection from a shell?
    Specifically, when I do

    	lb > prt: <lib-name> -t

    (this is the Aztec C librarian program), intending to get a directory
    to my printer, it goes instead to the screen with a 'by-the-way'
    error message.

    But Amiga's own commands seem to continue to work with redirection,
    like the AmigaDos DIR, etc.

    Do I have to dig into the depths of my tangled startup-sequences, or
    did AmigaDos change redirection in ways that would require recoding
    (or possibly relinking) other programs, contrary to the way i read the
    1.3 doc.

    thanks for any help.

2897.1Some gibberish...FRAMBO::BALZERChristian Balzer DTN:785-1029Wed Sep 06 1989 08:589

    First of, I'm not too happy with that space between the ">" and
    the "prt:".
    On the other hand, lb might bypass the standard output mechanism
    and send it's friendly messages directly to the console window...

2897.2used to work!ALASKA::QUIRICIWed Sep 06 1989 16:1016

    thanks for your reply.

    the lb command USED to work correctly, as i typed it, under a normal
    workbench 1.2 cli. only now, since i switched to workbench 1.3, and
    try the command from a shell, does it not work correctly.

    but the amigados commands still handle redirection properly.

    i grant you its not a super-important question, but it would be
    convenient to have 'hard' lists of my libraries.

    thanks again.

    Hmmm, I'll check that tonite, two fellow Software Brewery members
    own the Aztec package.
