2849.0. "Digiview port problem" by PENUTS::JCANHA () Mon Aug 21 1989 20:57

    Recently, I borrowed a friend's Digiview (software and hardware) to
    digitize some pictures on my Amiga 500 (512K). The program and
    hardware work in low resolution mode well with the person's A1000,
    however she does not have enough memory to use high resolution mode.
    Upon trying the Digiview on my A500, I discovered that the software
    works fine, except the signal which comes through the Parallel port
    is not working properly. Is it possible that the parallel port in
    the Amiga 1000 is different from the parallel port in the Amiga 500?

    If this is the case, does someone have the pin set-up for the parallel
    port in the Amiga 1000 so I could have a cable made someone to remedy
    this situation?

    Thanks,

2849.1changed pins in newer parallel ports!!!SPIDER::LONGTue Aug 22 1989 00:149
WARNING!!!!!!!

The 2000 ( and most likely the 500 ) has the state of the reset pin set
differently than the 1000!!! It took a few days to figure out why my
NEC P6 printer was hung. Hopefully the borrowed Digiview is only looking
at this pin for control and not for a ground!!!

	Good luck,

Hmmm. My digi-view, which plugged directly into a 1000, required a "gender
changer" to plug into a 2000 (I believe the 500 has the same port connector).
This "gender changer" also contained a small power-conditioning circuit, I
believe, and the pins were not "straight thru". This gadget was a digi-view
special for this purpose, and works fine.

So the parallel port is different between the 1000 and the 2000. Some early
notes on the 2000 discuss this in detail, I think.

2849.3Different GenderPENUTS::JCANHATue Aug 22 1989 13:1410

    Yes, the parallel ports have different genders, the A1000 is male
    and the A500 is female. I am currently using a "straight" gender
    changer. Do you think, I could construct my own gender changer based
    on the differences between pin set-ups? If so, does anyone know how
    I could obtain the pin set-up for the parallel port on the Amiga 1000?

    Thanks,

	This is the pin listing for the 500, 2000 and 2500...

	22		Ground
	23		Ground
	24		Ground
	25		Ground

	Note: 17-25 are all twisted pair returns except one, which is the
chassis ground. I'm not sure if it's 25 or 17; in most applications it doesn't
matter.
	See a note way back about the LJ252 printer. Do a dir/tit="lj" to get
the list. In one of the later LJ notes there should be an Amiga 1000 parallel
pinout. The important things are switched: the +5V pullup and the reset.

2849.6Exactly what I neededPENUTS::JCANHATue Aug 22 1989 16:557

    Thankyou everyone for your help and information. I can't believe
    how quickly I got a response, especially wih the pin description.

    Thanks,
