2597.0. "A2000 keyboard problem" by HXOU01::FAULKNER () Thu May 25 1989 16:01

    Hi,

    I've tried a directory/title="keyboard" with no luck but I can't
    believe that this topic has not been discussed here berfore.

    I have a problem with my 'new' A2000 keyboard "stealing" the first
    keypress after a reboot (cold or warm). I have the revision 4
    motherboard (german made). I have heard of others with the same
    problem, but the fixes they've given me are for later revisions
    of the motherboard (different capacitor numbering). Any help would
    be appreciated or if you could stear me to the proper note.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mark Faulkner.

    Mark,

    on an A2000-A - Motherboard cut C42 and C43
    on an A2000-B - Motherboard cut C910 and C911.

    Commodore-Tech-Support in Germany says that these capacitors are
    inside of "some older Keyboards" AND on the Motherboard too.

    hope this helps

2597.2Help ! - keyboard problem.....NACCEE::WILTSHIREDave - NaC Conformance Eng.Thu Apr 05 1990 23:0111
    When I try to use my A2000 with two games i.e. Infestation and Star
    Glider II, my keyboard sometimes (usually!) 'locks' up i.e. it asks you
    the language but will not accept any input from the keyboard. Other
    games such as Falcon and Interceptor never cause a problem. Running a Shell
    from the workbench is O.K. as well - all the keys appear to respond fine.

    Has anyone an idea as to what's going on ?

    Thanks,

    Dave.

    Reading .0 again, should I be cutting C910/C911 ?

    It is as if, every now and again, I'm loosing the first character
    after booting. This doesn't happen every time, just about 9
    boots in 10 !!!!!

    I've a revison V4.1 motherboard......

2597.4Keyboard capsAKOV11::SMITHReality, just a visible imagination?Fri Apr 06 1990 13:1110
I would suggest you open up your keyboard and look if it has caps across the
keyboard cable lines. The problem as I understand it was that some 2000's had
the caps installed on both the keyboard and the motherboard. I have a 4.3
motherboard with C910/C911 installed but in my keyboard they were already
removed. I would check before you cut.

Cheers,

2597.5Try lifting the caps temporarily.....CGOFS::CADAMSClint Adams - Calgary, CanadaFri Apr 06 1990 15:4011

    I cut the caps on the KDDATA and KBCLK lines inside the keyboard.
    Before I did that, I had nothing but trouble with the keyboard. I am
    assuming that C910 and C911 are on my 4.3 motherboard but I never had a
    look.

    My problem may have been different from what you are describing, I had
    keyboard hangs randomly during any kind of activity.

2597.6Keyboard locks up after keypressEEMELI::LINDENMon Apr 29 1991 05:3017
    Well I'm having keyboard problems with my A2000-B(rev 4.3). The
    keyboard simply locks up or sends infinite number of keypresses
    to system after you have pressed one key(no matter what).

    This has happened just recently with couple of demos(Crusaders
    Bass-O-Matic) and games(the new Killing Cloud) and it quite a pain.

    I don't have the C910&C911 on keyboard side, so that's not the problem.
    I could suspect 8250's, but I don't have such problems with other
    games, nor with the WB/CLI/SHELL environment...

    My system includes: A2000-B, GVP 8UP(with 2MB), CMI PA(14MHz), KS1.3.

    Any advice apreciated!!

Do you by any chance have a Cherry keyboard (the ones with the small function
keys)?
Do you otherwise use SetCPU with the keypatch option?

Unfortunately a number of game/demo programmers do things in a rather
illegal (to close to hardware) kinda fashion, if your keyboard timing
is marginal it might just _not_ work with their idea of an keyboard
handler.

2597.8Still no go...EEMELI::LINDENThu May 02 1991 07:3126

    re:-.1

    >Do you by any chance have a Cherry keyboard (the ones with the small
    >function keys)?
	Yes, I have that kinda keyboard.

    >Do you otherwise use SetCPU with the keypatch option?
	No, I do not use SETCPU at all, cause the game and the demos
    	doesn't use DOS-level at all...

    Yesterday I disassembled the whole machine, and took out every
    add-on that I had in it... still no go... after a few keypresses
    the keyboard just locked(even the capslock light!!), CTRL-A-A was
    only thing that worked...

    I'll try changing the crystal in keyboard to faster one, if that would
    help things... but if that doesn't work... I just have to refund
    the game... what a shame... the looked quite good.

    CB, thanks anyway!!
