2524.0. "BRIDGECARD conflicts with COM2" by WIDGIT::ALCORN (Colorado Springs Sales Support) Tue May 02 1989 16:01
I've searched all three Amiga conferences and haven't found a report of
this problem. I have an Amiga 2000 with the Bridgecard. I have tried
to use COM2 on the IBM side with three different devices, without success.
There seems to be a conflict on IRQ3. My attempts were with an internal
modem, a regular serial port card, and a special third party card that
used COM2.
My question is: Is anyone successfully using COM2 or COM4 on the
IBM side? It would help me determine if it is just my AMIGA that could
be fixed, or if it is a conflict with the Bridgecard.
With the modem and the serial card, MS-DOS would boot up but not recognize
COM2. So I'd run the SETCOM program specified in the newest version of
IBM KERMIT V2.32. I could then use KERMIT to dial the modem successfully,
or use the serial port. However, after exiting KERMIT, the next command
given would hang up the IBM side and require a reboot of the AMIGA side.
The third party card just hung up JLINK on the initial boot of the IBM.
My current solution is to use the modem on COM1 and the serial card on
COM3, with the KERMIT SETCOM program to define COM3. This wastes the
second serial port I bought because its configuation requires the
two serial ports to be contiguous. Neither COM2 or COM4 works, and they
both use IRQ3 for their interrupt.
Thanks for any comments.
