2510.0. "Hampshire, UK users?" by TOOLS::PIQUE::FREAN (N.B.) Wed Apr 26 1989 18:18

Hi -

My father, who lives near Basingstoke, Hampshire, owns an Amiga - he bought it
two years ago and has become an avid Amiga user! At age 74, never having used a
computer before in his life, he took the plunge. He has used it to write his
autobiography and several articles, as well as all his correspondence. He has
also bought DeluxePaint and a few other programs.

I use a Macintosh, [sorry, people!] and can help him up to a point, when he
has questions, but my technical expertise only carries over so far on the
different system, as you can imagine.

So, I am interested in finding anyone who owns an Amiga and lives in the
Hampshire, UK area, who might be willing to help him out from time to time
when he runs into problems. It amazes me how much he has learned and accomp-
lished since he immersed himself in his Amiga - in some senses he's a beginner,
but in a way, he's also a hacker! He has puzzled over printer fonts and
has made his own experiments to figure out how to get multiple character sets
in a Scribble document - he writes in English but uses a lot of Swedish and
Finnish words.

He recently bought a second disk (not hard disk), and next on his list is
more memory - he has 512K at the moment. He has his eye on a color printer
too, but money is tight.

My parents are visiting me here at the moment (until May 7th), so I'm going
off to the Amiga store in Wellesley with him to take a look ... there's a
dearth of Amiga stuff in his part of England, apparently.

Any encouragement, advice, contacts, comments, recommendations (hw, sw, UK
Amiga stuff) would be greatly appreciated. As I don't read this notes conf-
erence too often, please could you address any messages to me at CLT::FREAN?

Thank you in advance for any help!
