2147.0. "Has anyone seen Lazarus?" by CRISTA::CAPRICCIO (Slave to the waffle light) Mon Jan 23 1989 19:24

While downloading some stuff the other day, I came up with a "read/write
error" requestor. A short time later, I scrubbed for surgery with the
dreaded "DiskDoctor" (I'd use DiskSalv, but it's a single drive system).
Anywho, after it managed to pull only one file from the wreckage, and
stumbling a bit on tracks 40 and 79, it relabeled the disk "Lazarus".
    Has anyone seen this before?

I've used DiskDocter before and never seen this happen; it always kept
the original label. Since the documentation is sparse to non-existent,
I just wanted to make sure I hadn't picked something communicable along
    the way.

    Pete

P.s. FWIW, I was wearing a condom and running VirusX at the time...

Track 40 is the "root block" which contains information about the
disk, including the volume name. Since DiskDoctor couldn't recover
the original name, it had to call the disk something. Why Lazarus?
    Remember the Bible story?

The first time I 'DiskDoctor'ed a disk, I almost croaked from laughter
when the disk came back as Lazarus.

Lazarus was the character whom Christ resurrected from the dead.

I bet there's no such dark humor imbedded deep within IBM system
    software.

I caught the reference to Lazarus, but I wasn't sure if it was from
DiskDoctor or some Space Aliens. Thanks for the explanation.
Can I remove my condom now?

Bible? I always thought it was in referance to Heinleins's Howard
family Lazarous Long. No? I guess I have been reading the wrong
    books.

Re: .4

I think it is safe to say that the RAH character was named after the
one in the Bible.

Depends on whether you believe in time travel....
