2073.0. "2080 monitor focus problem" by FSCORE::KAYE (He who dies with the most toys...is dead) Wed Jan 04 1989 13:17

I purchased an A2000 about a month ago with the 280 long persistence
monitor. However, when i use Handshake (VT200 emulator) in 48 line
mode the characters are not crisp (in fact they are quite smeared).
I guess i would call them smeared in all modes, but it is quite
offensive with the smaller font. Is this a limitation of the 280?
or is the factory focus adjustment really poor. The manual focus
does not do much. Can anyone with a NEC multisync II comment on
how the small font looks with it? Or anyone with a 280?

Mark, I have an NEC Multisync II with a flicker fixer, and the small
fonts on Handshake are very sharp. I've used it several times in 48
row by 132 column mode and have no problem reading the characters.

2080 long persistence monitor???? Is this another one of those
thing CBM likes to sell everywhere else before they try selling
    it in the US? :-)

On a related subject, I recently bought a 1084S monitor. Except
it didn't look anything at all like the 1084S. Other than the
little Commodore logo instead of the Amiga logo, and the stereo
speakers and earphone jack, it looked just like a 1080. The label
on the back said it was made in Korea, the box was labeled 1084-D,
the CBM logo on the monitor said 1084S. The dealer said that the
box might be labeled with a D instead of an S but that they were
all the same. Right. I love it. No poping, smearing, etc. Just
as good as my original 1080 was, but this time it has two speakers
(the 1080 had 2 speaker grills, but only one speaker).

I took it in yesterday with the following problems:

    1) focus
    2) yoke rotated slightly clockwise
    3) can see the raster lines between characters (intermittent)
    	- seems this is a known problem

We'll see when it comes back...

At one time, Commodore wanted the 1080 to be have stereo speakers. When
I bought my Amiga 1000, the box had printed on its side descriptions of
the various Amiga peripherals you could buy. I noticed that the description
of the 1080 had been edited: A sticker had been placed over the description.
The description on the sticker said: "High resolution, Color, dynamic sound..."
The description underneath said: "High resolution, Color, Stereo sound..."
2073.5There is a fix available.MQOFS::LEDOUXReserved for Future UseMon Nov 20 1989 18:1321
    For the record:
Commodore admits to have a bug with the A2080.
    (focus or raster problem?)
They came out with a "fix kit", the kit includes:
    	1) Mounting bracket w/ hardware (screws)
    	2) CR block (Hi voltage with EHT cup)
    	3) a Metal cap
    	4) a rubber sleeve
    	5) a rubber wedge
    	6) instructions.
Basicaly, you have to cut a resistor, replace the Hi voltage
CR, and it should be fixed.
It should be considered like an ECO, I got mine free, since
I bought the A2080 last December.

It is called "A2080 modification Kit # 314030-01"
Call your dealer for more information.
I will be installing mine myself, I will let
this note know if problems arise...

    Vince.
