2038.0. "A2500 - Information / tests" by VENERE::ZABOT (Marco Zabot-Adv.Tech.mgr-Turin ACT) Tue Dec 27 1988 08:54

	As I say on a reply to note 3, I have a A2620.

The A2500 is just a PACKAGE ( even if it has a special label on it )
of available stuff. So , I suppose, I'm entitled to say:
	I have an A2500.

If you have special question on it, please go ahead and I will try
to answer them ( even if I have very little time to spend with my
	Amiga).

	Two pieces of information:

	a) uRAY ( thank you Dave, Happy New Year! ) does trace uRAY.DAT in
37' (Uray_2c). With Uray_sp it took 3h+). Does it take
the same time on previous 68020/68881 boards?

	b) RAD: doesn't work any more ( the system freeze ) if during the
boot I choose the 68000. I simple rejected the problem by
using only VDK: and ASDG-RAM. The system autoboot from HD.
It works correctly if the system is booted with the 68020.

PLEASE, if you have any software which take particularly advantage
of the fatter CPU post it here.

Ed, you are far ahead in contributing to this conference !
It is not so bad to be second when the first one is so good !

( Unfortunately my contribution to this conference is a lot
less then that I'd like it to be and being second is just a dream)

Marco, perhaps you can give a definite answer to a question on the A2620.
If you are booted off the 68000, can you access the memory on the A2620?
I got one answer from a dealer, and another one from this conference.
    And the real answer is...?

2038.5Simple question, Sad answer !CESARE::ZABOTMarco Zabot-Adv.Tech.mgr-Turin ACTThu Dec 29 1988 07:183
The answer is : NO, if you boot from the 68000 the 2MB /32 bits
    		    are NOT available !

2038.6How about the other way ???WR1FOR::HARVEYREThu Dec 29 1988 18:366
How does the A2620 see memory from its end? Like I have a B2000
with 3 meg total (1 meg on board + 2 meg addon) will the 68020 see
this memory and use it? Or should I try to sell my 2 meg addon when
    I upgrade to the A2620?

CSA has advertised a product called 'DRAGSTRIP' which magically
uses two 16-bit memory boards to produce 32-bit memory for use with
their accelerator. Or so I gather. Their ads are none too specific.

    Just some random information.

Re: .6

> How does the A2620 see memory from its end?

The A2620 sees all memory when it is running. The reason the
68000 can not see the 32 bit memory on the A2620 has to do with the
way the 68020 is halted which forces the bus on the A2620 into
tristate. This bus is used to access the memory, thus, when it is not
usable neither is the memory.

Re .8:

Does that mean that "something" could be booted into the 68020 which would
free up the bus so that the 68000 can access that memory?

2038.112500 without the 2620NOBHIL::BODINE_CHTue Oct 30 1990 22:0011
A question for all of the A2500 owners out there.

I tried to take the accelerator board out of an A2500 and put it in an A2000.
When I did, the 2500 would no longer boot. Is there something special that I
would have to do to get the 2500 to boot without the 2620 card?

I would really appreciate some help on this.

Thanks,
Chris

Try "resetting" with both mouse buttons down. it should bring up a
screen which gives you the opportunity to boot in either

   		68000
    		68020
    		UNIX

of course, you lose the FAST ram if you boot as 68000.

What I meant to say was......

Reset, THEN depress both mouse buttons. You have a second or two.

My first suggestion might just be physically impossible...

It's not physically impossible, just requires that you hold the mouse
    between your teeth.

RE: .11-.15

Ah ahem, um... gee it seems to me the mouse trick is only possible with the
A26x0 board installed. As I recall .11 he said he could not boot WITHOUT the
board installed. Without the board installed holding down both mouse buttons
has no effect.

I do not know why you should experience trouble booting without the acclerator.
My setup (which is exceptional by almost any measure) has too many disk buffer
and such to fit in a 1 meg RAM system - what I get without the A2630. I can
not boot the 68000 with the card installed either. Unless you have something
like 16+ disks (partitions) with lots of buffers I think this is unlikely.

I believe you're right, the mouse button trick only works if you have the
A26x0. After reading some of the other notes, it appears that there is a
jumper that you can set to tell it to boot from the 68000 by default.

Anybody know what it is?
