1943.0. "Placement of icons and window sizeing..." by RBW::WICKERT (MAA DIS Consultant) Sat Dec 03 1988 04:00

Now that I have my hard disk installed and formatted I have a question
    for you long-time users...

As I create more and more directories/drawers it get's to be more
and more of a pain when using the workbench to constantly have to
increase the size of a "drawer window" or whatever you call the
window when a disk/drawer is selected. So, I'd like the system to
remember how big to make a window when opended...

Also, I'd like to specify the placement of various icons within
a window. They tend to overlay each other making them tough to find.

Anyone know a fix for either of these?

    Thanks,
    Ray

    Hi Ray,

use the snapshot option in the Workbench 'Special' menu. It's
documented in my 'Introducing the Amiga 500' manual. Basically select
the icons you want to save the positions of (use shift-select for
more than one at a time) and select the SNAPSHOT option.

    regards

Re: .0, .1

In particular, to set the size and placement of a disk or drawer window,
open the disk or drawer icon, position and size its window, click again
on the icon to select it, and choose Snapshot from the Workbench menu.

Then, to set the size and position of the window opened by selecting the disk
icon, first select the disk's icon and then, while it is selected, hit the
"snapshot" function.

I'm impressed... I guess this means I should be reading those funny
looking paper things that came with this beast!

    Thanks guys. It works perfect.

Well I've always found in the industry that :-

if at first you don't succeed...

	    	try the manuals....

At least it's documented in the A500/2000 manuals. When I got my
A1000 on 10/85, there was no mention of 'extended select'. It took
me about sixi months to find out how to do it.
