1939.0. "integrated tool ?" by ULYSSE::ZITTA (ULYSSE in wonderland) Fri Dec 02 1988 09:50

I have some questions :

1. What are the tools needed to integrate
	-Text
	-Graphics
	-and digitized images
 in a single "document" ?

2. Is the final document "object oriented" ?
I mean : If you want to modify some graphics for instance ,in the
FINAL document ,is it necessary to modify the SOURCE file first and
 then reprocess everything
	or
can you just modify directly in the final document and have the source
 file updated accordingly automatically ?

Is there such a tool for the Amiga ?

	Thanks,
	gerard

Several word processors for the Amiga are actually mini-page
composition systems. Two of the best are ProWrite from New Horizons
Software and Excellence! from Micro Systems Software.

Both programs allow the merging of text, images, and multiple fonts
(even color). ProWrite is ahead in the imaging area, since it can
use HAM (4096 color) images, wheras Excellence! (currently) barfs
on HAM images. Prowrite can even shade color images to look nice
on a black and white printer. Both programs support Postscript
output for printing on a laser printer. Neither program is
    object-oriented.

If you are serious about manipulating images, you need an image
processing program like Pixmate or Butcher. These programs can
manipulate palletts, resolutions, and perform sophisticated algorithms
to 'clean up' fuzzy images or blend sharp edges. They also convert
images from one resolution to another.

For real page composition, I'll let someone else describe Professional
Page from Gold Disk. There are some sample newsletters put together by
Paul MacDonald floating around on the net in PS format. Paul's
newsletters look fantastic, and include quite a few digitized photos
that have been grey-scaled. Gold Disk has been advertising a
structured drawing program, but I don't know if it's available yet.
