1884.0. "New Amiga Models Announcement?" by VTHRAX::KIP () Fri Nov 18 1988 15:49

I saw a blurb in VNS extracted from the Wall Street Journal stating
that Commodore had announced two new Amiga models at Comdex offering
more speed and memory. Is one of these the 2500 I've read about
    on Usenet?

The two new product were the 2500 and the 2000HD. The "HD" is a
2000 with a 40 MG hard disk. The 2500 as we now is the 68020 processor
and 3MG system. Don't recall the list prices for them but when
I get 'em I'll post them.

BTW: Even though they've been announced, don't know when they'll
    be available.

Before A2000 owners go into a panic, an A2000 becomes an A2500 by
plugging in a card into that tempting co-processor slot on the A2000
    motherboard.

Still no info (yet) on the card price, but it does include 2 MB
of 32 bit RAM, the 68020/68881, and a Motorola MMU chip.

    New Products From Commodore

West Chester, Pa., Nov. 14 (AP) - Commodore International Ltd.,
which makes microcomputers, introduced three models aimed at business
users, including two additions to its Amiga line intended to compete
with the Macintosh of Apple Computer Inc. The Amiga 2500 and the
Amiga 2000HD are the first additions to the line since April 1987.
The new machines offer twice the capacity of the earlier models
    and a faster microprocessor.

The Amiga ranks fourth in American sales among computers with
32-bit microprocessors, behind the Macintosh, the Personal System/2
Model 70 by the International Business Machines Corporation and
the Deskpro 386 of the Compaq Computer Corporations's, according
to IMS America Ltd., a market research company.
