Once you've got your 32 color iff file, exactly how did you transmit it to VMS,
and then how did you convert it to SIXEL. I tried numerous times and sometimes
it worked and sometimes it didn't. I used KERMIT (in file type binary) to send
the raw binary IFF file (no packing). I then used CSIX to convert but (with
640 x 400 resolution) the output file got corrupted. Help!

| Steve you did a very good job. I had no problem till now in using
your CSIX, which I did at least a couple of dozen times.
It seams not to work well with HAM, I mean, the palette computed
is not a good one. I don't have anymore the result of the conversion
of LAURIE HAM , but it was not good at all.
That's why I tried to convert the color on the AMIGA. The result
using DIGIVIEW s/w is the one mentioned in previous note. I've been
told that also BUTCHER gives very good results. I'll give a try
sometime.
Now, for the procedure I use.
Suppose you have the file FOO.IFF on your amiga side.
I use SMOKEY terminal simulator ( great stuff ! SHIFT-F10 and i'm
connected to my account after passing the ACB ( automatic call back)
the router, the terminal server etc..). You can also do that manually.
Now your screen shows your favority VMS prompt ( mine is X-mz->)
where X stand for the system (C,S,V,N....).
Next SHIFT-F9 which start a KEMIT.INIT batch file which is equivalent
to :
X-mz->run home:[amiga.exec]kermit.exe
VMS Kermit-32 version 3.2.077
Default....
Kermit 32>set file type binary
Kermit 32>server
Kermit server running .....
Now using the right mouse button choose CHANGE DIR ( or press RIGHT-AMIGA
and W ) and set it where is FOO.IFF ( such as DH0:Graphics/TOVAX )
Next: AMIGA-RIGHT and S (or KEMIR-SEND from pull down menu)
Wait a while. Another while. A bit more. Now you're done.
AMIGA-B will bring you back to vms prompt.
You should find FOO.IFF on your VMS directory.
Continue with:
X-mz->CSIX -t10 -l20 foo.iff foo.six
X-mz->TYPE foo.SIX
You should have on your terminal the sixel image.
I NEVER DID THE LAST STEP from the home terminal ( it takes too
much time), BUT ONCE. It worked even if the image was twice longer
then the real. I always do the last to steps on the office terminal.
I never had any problem.
For info:
Comm SetUp: 1200 bauds / parity=none /Stops=1/wordleng=8/Xfer
mode=IMAGE + CONVERT
If you need more, let me know.
Ciao. marco
