1864.0. "Bridgeboard vs. 1.3" by SAUTER::SAUTER (John Sauter) Thu Nov 10 1988 11:28

Last night, for the first time in several months, I fired up my
Bridgeboard, so my wife could use some commercial software she has,
which runs only on MS-DOS. It booted OK, and the keyboard and screen
worked, but I couldn't access the 68000's hard disk from the PC
side. The JLINK command hung the PC, so badly that even ctrl-alt-del
    wouldn't reboot!

I reinstalled the 2088 software from its original disk, but the
problem remained. The parallel printer interface, by the way, still
    works.

The only thing that I changed that might reasonably have anything
to do with this symptom is the 68000's operating system. Since
I last used the Bridgeboard I installed WB 1.3 and converted the
hard disk to FFS. Is there anyone else with a Bridgeboard and 1.3
who has seen this symptom? Conversely, is there anyone else with
a Bridgeboard and 1.3 that works?

I have Bridgeboard, ROM &WB 1.3, HD on IBM side and on 68000 side
    ( a2090 controller).
I'm also willing to try if it works as soon as at home, but I never
used JLINK . I not sure I 'm able to put the hands on docs. Do
you want to lead my testing ???

Thanks for the offer. To test it, click on the disk icon in the
PC drawer before clicking on the PC-MONO icon, to enable Janus.
Then, when you have brought up MS-DOS, just type JLINK. JLINK
with no arguments is supposed to list the linkages: they should
    all be empty.

Actually, I tried it without enabling disk communication and it
hung in the same way. I think you're supposed to get a message
    in this case.

If you've never used Janus before, you must add it to your MS-DOS
configuration file as a driver, and reboot MS-DOS. The 2088 manual
explains how to do this. (I'm not at home so I can't quote it.)

John, I have a bridgeboard and WB 1.3 (not KS1.3) and I have no problems
accessing the amiga hard disk using JLINK. The only times I have had the
bridgeboard hang both the PC and the Amiga is if I try to JLINK to the
amiga hard disk without runing PCDISK first. Are you sure you started
PCDISK before trying to JLINK to the amiga hard disk?

Sigh, Thanks for the information. I have tried both ways, running
PCDISK (by clicking the icon) and not. Either way it hangs the
PC. In fact, the PC is hung so badly that crtl/alt/del won't reboot
    it!

I'll try reconstructing the PC software from the originals. If
that doesn't work, it's off to the repair shop.

1864.5Mine works OK !CESARE::ZABOTMarco Zabot-Adv.Tech.mgr-Turin ACTFri Nov 11 1988 20:1517
    John,
I have bad news for you: it works !
    Here is what I've done.
1-start PC mono and modified CONFIG.SYS by adding
    	device=jdisk.sys
    	(as per your suggestion)
    2-restarted Amiga ( just in case ..)
    3-double clicked PCDISK
    4-started PCMONO
5-entered the command JLINK and I got a map of the links
      ( no one present ...)
BTW - All the command where already on the Janus disk I prepared
    	   with 1.2 some 145years ago !

    Good luck !

Is the disk on the Amiga side that you are trying to access from the bridgecard
formatted with the fast file system? Does this make a difference?

My 68000-side disk is formatted with FFS.
