1852.0. "Wierdness with PRT:" by RAVEN1::EVERHART () Thu Nov 03 1988 19:32

    	Something really wierd is going on with my PRT: device. I usually
    boot up, and use the ^D sequence to avoid loading in workbench.
    Recently, I tried copying a file to PRT:, and it told me the device
    was busy. This really puzzled me since I had JUST turned the computer
    on, and NOTHING was running. COPY filename PRT: is what caused
    the error. I have tried it several times since, and it still doesn't
    work. However, COPY filename PAR: does seem to work. Is it impossible
    to use PRT: from CLI? I am confused.

1852.1missing driver?SAUTER::SAUTERJohn SauterThu Nov 03 1988 19:494
    I think this can happen if the printer driver specified by your
    PREFERENCES can't be found. Check preferences and then check the
    directory that holds the PRT: drivers to be sure it's there.

    Perhaps you are hitting CTRL-D before the printer driver is loaded.

    Re .1
    Well, as you suspected, this WAS the case. For some reason, my
    preferenes had reset the printer selection to Custom, which I do
    not have. I changed it to epson, and all worked well. Thank you
    for the help.

    Re .2
    Actually, the printer driver isn't loaded until an application requires
    it. IE, when I try to send something to prt:, the driver is loaded.
