1835.0. "More European-made Demos On-line" by LOWLIF::DAVIS (That's not a BUG, it's a FEATURE!) Sat Oct 29 1988 01:04

Since everyone seemed to like the Wild Copper demo, I decided to WARP a disk
that I have of similar little European demos. I WARP'ed two files. Tracks
0-39 are at MDKCSW::DUA2:[DAVIS.AMIGA]EUROPE_DEMOA.WRP and tracks 40-79 are
...DEMOB.WRP. There are eight demos on the disk. The disk is bootable and
the demos run from WorkBench via XIcon (also on the disk).

Enjoy!

    woops.

    	The file EUROPE_DEMOA.WRP seems to be set to NO world read.

    	Although EUROPE_DEMOB.WRP is ok.

    I can't wait to get to the other half of the disk (the 'A' file)
    and get a look at these demos.

    Thanks for the upload  ;')

:-) That's what I get for announcing it before I'm done! You must have just
caught me during my XMODEM session because I set it W:R as soon as it was done.

By the way, I just found out that I sorta screwed up. If you run BarBrian from
Workbench, the machine GURUS. Well, it works from the CLI. I didn't try to
figure out why yet. What is the default STACK size set to when you don't
explicitly state one in the icon???? Maybe that's the problem?

Also, I should have said that I have a 2000, so this disk runs NoFastMem in
the startup-sequence. The demos seem to like it. :-) If you don't have
expansion memory, you probably won't want it to do that.

1835.3WARP Program?DNEAST::COMBAR_CURTCurtis T. Combar - Augusta QISMon Oct 31 1988 18:525
    Hmmm, seems like I've heard discussion of WARP elsewhere on-line
    but no luck finding it again. Should I have a program that will
    slap those tracks back on a disk. If so, where can I find it?

    You can get WARP here:

    	MSBIS""::DISK16:[AMIGA.ARC.UTILITIES]WARP11.ARC

    I got one or two small error msgs while restoring this stuff. But
    the demos seem to run ok.

    Any chance of repackaging the Warp files smaller than 360K for
    Sneakernet transfers (i.e. via PC diskette)??

1835.6Well, I could...LOWLIF::DAVISThat's not a BUG, it's a FEATURE!Tue Nov 01 1988 21:027
And I thought I was being nice by making it two warp files!! :-) Really, I
have it nice. I'm in K.C. only 15 minutes from my office with a 2400 baud
modem and NO LONG DISTANCE! I could re-upload it in four pieces if there
is a lot of interest. Otherwise, just drop me a disk to Richard Davis @KCO
and I'll copy it off the next day.

1835.7DEwarp instructions pleaseMEMORY::SOVIESSDDWed Nov 02 1988 00:0911

    What's the proper syntax of the command line to reconstruct a Warped
    disk?? I tryed copying warp to RAM and then

    	RAM:warp read 1 79 df1:
        Warp asked to insert the source in DF0; and then chunked away

    	I ended up with a file called .WRP on DF1:

    WARP will only work with df0: when used either to make or unpack
    a .wrp file. If you have a .wrp file you're trying to write to disk,
    use the following command

    	WARP WRITE device:filename

    You'll be prompted to insert the target floppy in drive 0; put the
    floppy in the drive and hit return and you'll see status reports
    as the file is unpacked.

    To make a .wrp file from an existing disk, put the disk you want
    to compress into df0:. Then issue the following command

    	WARP READ x y device:filename

    where x is the starting track number and y is the ending track number.
    Warp doesn't care where the output file goes in this case but the
    input disk has to be in df0:

    Ok I've downloaded the two files onto a disk and gave them the name
    eura.wrp and eurb.wrp soo the correct syntax is

    WARP WRITE device:filename>>> WARP WRITE DF0:EURA.WRP

    and when that is finished WARP WRITE DF0:EURB.WRP

    and then I will have a totally reconstructed disk??

    re .9

    It's going to be tough if you just have 1 drive. Warp will only
    write to DF0:. I don't know if it's possible to have warp read from
    and write to the same device, but I doubt it. You need to have EURA.WRP
    and EURB.WRP either in RAM: or DF1: to really make this work. Then
    do
    	WARP WRITE DF1:EURA.WRP and
    	WARP WRITE DF1:EURB.WRP

    and then you have a fully reconstructed disk.

1835.12Nice demos / Kudos for ZmodemROMULN::MYEEBoycott Styrofoam cups, save the ozone.Thu Nov 03 1988 13:4621

    I just download this demo last night. It's almost as good as the
    "Wild Copper Demo"!!! Seem like the europeans really know how to
    hack. But, I'm having problems with some of the demos. With the
    "Alien" demo, the text goes to garbage after the first few seconds.
    And the "Champs" demo seems to leave spots(leftover garbage) on
    the screen. Is this the correct behavior ??

    Some interesting info:

    	I downloaded this demo using SZ.EXE(VMS Zmodem) and AZcomm(Amiga).
    The download failed the last 3 mins of a 35 min download. I remembered
    that Zmodem is suppose to be able to recover from a failure like
    this. So, I tried "SZ -r filename" on the VAX side, and AZcomm's
    "Resume Zmodem receive" on the Amiga side. AND, IT WORKED !!! Now,
    I am really convince that Zmodem is the BEST modem protocal. Hmmm,
    if there were only a VT220 emulator with Zmodem, then I'll be in
    Amiga heaven...

1835.13They work on my 2000MDKCSW::DAVISThat's not a BUG, it's a FEATURE!Thu Nov 03 1988 18:395
They all work OK on my A2000. I do remember that the text "Alien" was
messed up until I ran NoFastMem in the background. Maybe the ZModem
repair didn't quite make fix it all??

1835.14Alien demo still doesn't quite work.ROMULN::MYEEBoycott Styrofoam cups, save the ozone.Wed Nov 09 1988 16:539

    I retransmitted the file, and Aliens still puts up garbled text
    after the first few seconds. Does anyone else have this problem,
    or am I the only one? I have NoFastMem in my Demo disk startup.
    My configuration is an Amiga 500 with 1 meg and 1 external floppy
    drive.
