1820.0. "New Conman1.3 with better typeahead!" by ROMULN::MYEE (Boycott Styrofoam cups, save the ozone.) Wed Oct 26 1988 19:45

    NEW IMPROVED CONMAN V1.3 is now available from:

    Romuln::Dub3:[public.amiga]conman13.arc

    Great news - Amiga users can now type-ahead without stopping Amiga's
    CLI output (CND: handler), just like VMS.

From CONMAN.DOC:

   Features new to ConMan V1.3 include the CND: handler for invisible,
   non-blocking type-ahead, the CNX: (extensible) handler for use of the
   serial device as a console, improved editing of long lines, and support
   for superbitmap windows.

    Hmmm. Sounds like somebody has been BUSY! :-)
    I can't wait to get a hold of it.

1820.2Anyone get CND: to work ?ROMULN::MYEEBoycott Styrofoam cups, save the ozone.Mon Nov 07 1988 20:316
    Has anybody gotten the CND: handler to work? I have an entry in
    the mountlist and mount it in my startup-sequence. But the CLI
    window I get is dead (with "NewCLI >NIL: CND:0/0/100/100/newwindow").

	I've tried to copy the CONMAN13.??? file to my system twice now and
    both times it has been corrupted when I try to un??? it. I tried to un???
    it under VMS and I get the same error message. Is there something I need
    to do to get this to work or is the original bad?

	[ I've been able to move about 20 of the Fish disks without problems
    so skip the standard lecture about looking up DOWNLOAD in the directory.
    I've already done that. What I need is information on why these particular
    files are different from the fish disk .LZH and .ZOO files. ]

    Check the file type - LHARC and ZOO under VMS require that the file be
    at Stream_LF record format file. This would explain a VMS side problem.

    If you are using ZMODEM to download then the archives must be corrupted
    if they don't dearchive on the Amiga. Either on TAPE (or wherever) or
    during the download (unlikely) or you have a bad spot on your disk.

    Can you give us more information about the files you are having trouble
    with?
1820.5Use ARC on .ARC filesSTAR::ROBINSONFri Oct 12 1990 18:1134
I think your problem is that conman13.arc is not a .zoo or .lzh file.
You need the ARC program on your amiga (and vax if you want to look
at it there). When you find it, available from the usual net sources,
use it approximately the same way you do the other archive programs.
On VMS, define it as foreign command etc.

This is an old archive program that nobody uses anymore, but you
will find info in this conference if you go back a year or so.
Conman happens to be an old program that is still valid today.

Dave

Below is the usage for the VMS arc:

Usage: ARC {amufdxerplvtc}[bswn][g<password>] <archive> [<filename> . . .]
Where: a = add files to archive
         m = move files to archive
         u = update files in archive
         f = freshen files in archive
         d = delete files from archive
         x,e = extract files from archive
         r = run files from archive
         p = copy files from archive to standard output
         l = list files in archive
         v = verbose listing of files in archive
         t   = test archive integrity
         c = convert entry to new packing method
         b = retain backup copy of archive
         s = suppress compression (store only)
         w   = suppress warning messages
         n = suppress notes and comments
         g   = Encrypt/decrypt archive entry

	Did anybody ever tell you that it was not nice to talk down to people?

     > Did anybody ever tell you that it was not nice to talk down
     >   to people?

     I tried not to. If you had typed conman13.arc instead of .???,
     I would not have offered my suggestion. When you can't rember the three
     letters .arc in a message I assume it is new to you. I know arc files
     are not used often anymore - Amiga users can go months downloading
     new stuff without ever seeing an arc file.

     Sorry you were offended, but I think you comment was uncalled for.

Re .7:
	I'm sorry I offended you. I was trying to give you some feedback
    on your communication style.

	The question marks were there because I could not remember if it
    was a .ARC, a .ZOO or a .LHZ file and did not have access to the
    file at the time I was writing. I also indicated that I had some
    working knowledge of the subject by indicated that I had tried to
    unpack it on the AMIGA and list its contents from VMS with limited
    success. While I haven't tried to deZOO a .ARC file or deLHARC a
    .ARC file, I would expect no success at all. The fact that I had
    any success what-so-ever should have been enough of a clue that I
    was past the initial stages and had at least looked at the help text.

	Again, sorry to come down on you, but it did seem that you were
    'shooting from the hip' rather than thinking about the problem.
