1750.0. "help with boat anchor (ADAM computer)" by FSCORE::KAYE (Be seeing you) Thu Oct 06 1988 15:43

This may not be the proper place, but i don't know where else to
    ask, so bare with me.

A friend has given me an ADAM (Coleco) computer that is broke (to
    fix).
The printer contains the P/S and seems to supply everything else
via a cable. The problem is, that when powered up the head moves
to the right and chunks away (as if being continually initialized).
I have no manuals and noone seems to service these dinasours anymore.
Does anyone have some helpful hints? I'm in Ottawa, Canada, so service
in the US is probably out of the question.

1750.1Try Honeywell BullULTRA::KINDELBill Kindel @ BXB1Thu Oct 06 1988 16:2010
Coleco contracted with the Honeywell [Bull] Customer Service Division
to provide service for the ADAM. (Honeywell Bull also provides service
for Star printers and a number of other manufacturers.) Try them. The
local (Newton, MA) Honeywell CSD folks actually gave a friend of mine
some free software when he took his ADAM in for service.

There's a good chance that the cost of fixing an ADAM is substantially
greater than its value. If you're trying to scrounge the printer
to serve as a letter-quality device, don't bother. The ADAM printer
may be the slowest, LOUDEST printer ever invented.

There is a company (American Design Components) who advertise in the
back of Radio Electronics magazine, who carry a large supply of replacement
Adam stuff. Ex: you can buy the computer less the printer for $99,
and they have the power supply from the printer for $14.95
