1673.0. "Latest Gossip" by LEDS::ACCIARDI (Heisenberg may have slept here) Thu Sep 08 1988 19:07

    * Latest items from the rumor mill...

v1.3 may not be shipped until mid-November. This could contradict
earlier reports that Enhancer 1.3 manuals were spotted in Westchester.
Or, there may be some last minute bug squashing.

The A2000 is reported to be outselling the A500 in some geographic
    areas.

The 650,000 mark has been passed. CBM predicts 1,000,000 machines
sold by the end of the Christmas season.

John Foust is not the Bandito of Amazing Computing magazine! At least,
he isn't anymore. John swears that he stopped being the Bandito
sometime last year, and he won't say who the replacement is, although
he'd like to wring his neck for the recent Apple IIGS+ report in the
latest issue. John feels that the GS+ may never see the light of day
due to a) overlap with the Mac II and b) a reliable high volume source
of a faster 65816 processor. John (and several vocal Amiga fans on
PLINK) feels that even if a GS+ as described were to appear, it still
is not a qualified 'Amiga-killer'. John insinuated that the new
Bandito is secretly an Apple fan, and would love to stir up thousands
    of Amiga lovers.

Several parties are working on a Hypercard clone for the Amiga.

    That's all for now...

Note: These tidbits are informally compiled from threads on PLINK,
USENET, and snipits from various Amiga rags. They are presented
here with no permission whatsoever, and are not intended
to be direct quotes. You can do as you like with them.

Dealers won't make much money from the 1.3 upgrades, so I suspect
CA will hold off shipping it until shortly before Christmas. The
dealers can then use it to attract old customers into the store
and try to sell them something.

If manual schedules at Commodore work the way they do at DEC, it isn't
too unusual for manuals to go to production ahead of software. That is
why we provide so many release notes that mention new features not
in the manual.

Does the Apple//gs+ run Apple//e and Apple//gs programs? How much

The Apple//gs+ may never exist, but I would expect it to run Apple II
and Apple II/GS programs.

>How much will it cost??

Too much for what it does. half :-)

There is no such thing as an Apple IIGS Plus. Anything that you
read about in the computer press is sheer speculation until the
moment that you can go into a store and physically touch it.

The rumor is that a IIGS Plus will now have interlaced (400 line)
video modes, like the Amiga, and 1 meg of RAM. The memory bank
that the Ensonique sound chip uses will be expanded from 64 K to
128 K. Again, this is all sheer rumor. Apple hasn't announced
    the IIGS Plus.

As far as compatibility with Apple IIe software goes, wouldn't it
make sense to ask that question in the Apple notes file? I'm sure
that there must be at least one person within Digital who actually
    owns a IIGS.

    Ed.

The rumored price is $2500 with two drives and an RGB monitor.
1673.6E software on a IIGS????NEWVAX::FILERFri Sep 09 1988 13:449
Before I bought my Amiga 500 I looked at the IIGS. I looked
like a fairly good system and the salesman said it could/would do
almost anything including run ALL E software.(he also mentioned
a price tag about $1200 over what I paid for my 500 system) Before
I made any decission I asked around the office and one of my co-workers
actually bought a IIGS. He took it home and tried his E software
on it. He found most of it did not work at all and what did work
had problems. He returned the system the next day.

This is no rumor, but I went to the 64 store in Atlanta, and
they say that they will have V1.3 in November. However, when I
asked whether it would actually be V1.3, or V1.4, he didn't seem
to know anything about 1.4. So, I'm not too sure how reliable he
is. I got the impression that he was new at the store. (But then
again, so was I) (By 1.4 and 1.3, I mean the new OS versions)

1673.8V1.3 by Xmas, V1.4 maybe in your lifetimeNAC::PLOUFFBeautiful downtown LittletonFri Sep 09 1988 21:046
On Usenet, the Amiga west coast people are soliciting opinions on
what features to put into V1.4 of the OS. That means that it's
a l-o-n-g way off, probably a year or more.

V1.3, on the other hand, seems to be stuck at killing the last subtle
bugs, and has been there for months. Really, version 1.3 Omega 7 ??!!
