Re: .0

I think they only publish the magazine at 2 - 3 month intervals.

I subscribed about the time the first issue came out, and never received
any copies. I called them up a month ago and complained; they mailed
me the two issues published so far within a week.

So, they seemed to be in business a month ago.

It does seem to be the best technical magazine covering the Amiga.

I just called them (416-764-5273) and was told that the 3rd issue
would be out the 1st or 2nd week of September.

You can call this number Mon, Wed or Fri only (so the magazine
says). Don't know if they will take phone orders, but at least
       you can get ordering instructions.

I ordered by phone and paid with credit card.

said they were going to start carrying it now.

The latest one I have (received against my subscription) is dated
       September 1989.

Apparently (from Transactor themselves at the C= show in Toronto) they
moved and their mailing list got screwed up and I guess more than that
too, so they have not started shipping new issues yet. We the
subscribers may have to tell them where to send the next issues!

P.S. I do get Amigo times - it is on top of my list as far as
            AMIGA mags are concerned.

1625.10ANYONE GOT A NEW PHONE NUMBER??POLAR::GOSLINGWed Jan 10 1990 14:4923
I called the number that was in the last copy I received from them
(September 1989). Got a recording saying that the number was no
       longer in service.

I called the local CompuCentre that I sometimes deal with, and
asked if they had a new number. Their response was that they
hadn't received a Transactor since the August time frame and
thought they had gone belly up!

Has anyone seen a later issue than September 1989, and if so,
would they mind posting the new phone number (the one quoted in
the September issue - top right hand corner of page 3 - is 416
764-9262) so that I can find out what is happening to my
       subscription.

If indeed they have gone belly up, then I will chalk it up to
experience. If they have simply forgotten about me, I want to
       set them straight.

       Thanks again.

1625.11Another dead phone numberTLE::RMEYERSRandy MeyersWed Jan 10 1990 19:0817
Re: .10

The following number sort of worked for me a month or so ago:

416/764-5273 Mon. Wed. Fri. Answering Machine Tue. Thurs.

"Sort of" worked because I didn't get the magazine, I got their
answering service. The answering service stated that the magazine
was in the process of moving, and was unavailable.

Don't bother calling the number: I just did, and it too was
disconnected.

The last issue that I received was Volume 3 Issue 1 (September).

Its possible that the Transactor may come back from the grave. It
did once, but it doesn't look good.

Funny, I have the September 1989 issue right in front of me and
it's labelled Volume 2, Issue 6?? Given I got mine here in
Canada, it must be the metric volume/issue scheme :-)

1625.13Too Bad...CSC32::K_APPLEMANThu Jan 11 1990 15:5510
It will be a shame if the Transactor is out of business for good. I
felt it was the only decent Amiga magazine around for those who wanted
to go a little deeper into the machine than simply "click an icon and
go" users. Haven't looked at Amigo Times too closely, buy it seems
like all the other magazines fill their pages with endless game
reviews, a few hardware reviews and a miniscule amount of shallow CLI
information. Maybe I'll pick up a copy of A.T. and check it out.

Re: .12

Looks like I blew it. I'm fairly sure the last issue I own is
Volume 3 Issue 1, but I don't remember the month (but, September
sounded so plausible!). I'll try and check at home and enter the
real information.

An interesting fact: I never received the last issue published
in the mail. I saw it displayed at System Eyes, waited a month
for my copy to arrive, and then bought it from System Eyes.

Could it be that the issue issue published was never sent to
subscribers?

Guess that what I am trying to find out. If Jean (ref his response a
couple back) is correct, and given he had a one-to-one with them at the
Commodore show in Toronto early in December I assume he is, then what
needs to be done is to "remind" them of your subsciption. Problem is,
no known numbers work!!

I'm sure I have seen an issue somewhere within the last month or so
that was newer then the last one I received.

Time to jump in the car and check out my favourite haunts!!

I never received the September 89 and beyond issue(s).

I sent email to Tim Grantham who *used* to be an Editor for Transactor.

Following is his reply.

Anyone in Canada care to chase down these guys?

1625.17GOOD NEWS - BAD NEWSPOLAR::GOSLINGWed Jan 17 1990 13:4215
Last night, much to my surprise, I found a copy of AT in the mail.
It was the October 1989 issue - 3.1. Unfortunately, the phone
numbers had not changes from the September issue, so I/we are no
farther ahead. There was nothing in the editorial section, or any
other section for that matter, that sheds light on the reason for
       delays, etc.

Perhaps they are finally getting their act back together and we
will see a flood of back issues! If you recall, that is would
happened when they had financial problems a while back. Keep your
       fingers crossed.

I think it is dead. ".info" magazine was supposed to have picked
up some of the writers but I never compared authors names to verify.
Both Amiga World and Amazing Computing/Amiga seemed to be
launching/trying to launch tech oriented magazines, perhaps as
replacements for Transactor. Anybody seen one of these new ones?
