1505.0. "PC -> AMI <- MAC" by SHIRE::GANGUILLET () Thu Jun 30 1988 12:05

I'm wondering if there is an easy way to read
3.5 MS/dos diskette on an Amiga or 3.5 Amiga disk on a PC

    Or

read an Ami disk on a MAC or a Mac disk on a amiga

    Any public domain software ?

    EG.

there is a thing called DOS-TO-DOS (SP?) but I'm not sure if it works with
3.5" format

Re: .0

No current way for an Amiga and Mac to directly trade data on 3.5
inch disks. The Mac has variable speed drives that slow their
rotational speed as the read head moves towards the center of the
disk and speed up as the head moves towards the edge. People have
been able to write Amiga software to read some of the tracks of
a Mac disk, but this isn't that useful.

DOS-2-DOS reads and writes 3.5 inch MS/DOS disks. If you get the 5.25
inch floppy drive, you can use the PCTOOLS on the Amiga Basic disk
to read and write IBM floppies.

No problem reading 3.5" MS-DOS diskettes on an Amiga ... all you
need is Transformer V1.2 which turns your Amiga into a PC Clone.
Its about half the speed of a standard PC, and it won't handle PC
graphics, but things like DB III, PROComm, and other programs work
    just fine.

Do you have a phonenumber or adress ?

    Thanks

The "Transformer" is a Commodore product which consists of:

    - a 5-1/4 inch floppy disk drive
    - PC emulation software.

In the US is costs $200-225, but availability is sporadic. The
original Transformer software worked only with AmigaDOS v1.1. Now
there is an upgrade which dealers are distributing, possibly free.

Don't know which version of the software comes in the box, and some
dealers don't know about the upgrade. In addition, Transformer
works with the A1000, but may not work with the A500, and definitely
does NOT work with the A2000. (Perhaps others can fill the holes
    in this note.)

P.S. Know any dealer in Massachusetts who has them in stock?

1505.6Sure it works on a 2000 ...MTWAIN::MACDONALDWA1OMM 7.093/145.05/223.58 AX.25Thu Jul 07 1988 15:575
Dunno where the rumor about Transformer not working on the 2000
sprouted from, but it DEFINITELY DOES work on the Amiga 2000. Many
people who have trouble, do so because they forget to change the
drive numbers on the SETPREFS program that comes with the
    Transformer.

The consensus on usenet was that Transformer does NOT work on an
Amiga 2000 with the older German Keyboards.

.7 is right, the Transformer likes the 2000, but the different
timing of the German designed A2000 keyboard (with the small function
keys) keeps it from reading the keyboard. I understand that it
is possible to buy a newer A2000 keyboard (with the large function
keys). Last time I asked, the Memory Location said something like
    $134 for the new keyboard.
