1295.0. "REZ anyone??" by MTBLUE::PFISTER_ROB (Steak knife, puta hole in my head) Mon Apr 04 1988 12:28

I just installed ARP as well as REZ on my `working' workbench, and what
a difference they make. With the space I saved from switching to ARP I
was able to throw some more stuff on the disk including REZ.

REZ makes programs resident, and tries really hard not to get upset if
the code isn't re-entrant, or shareable. Two things I really like about
REZ is that

1) works from the normal CLI (I wish I knew how that works!)
2) each command doesn't get loaded until it is invoked (no pre-loading!)

I've used the `original' Amiga Resident-CLI, the ARP Resident, Addbuffers,
FaccII, and RAM:C tricks in the past to speed things up, but so far REZ
is my favorite.

REZ is PD, and is currently BETA [what's another GURU anyhow?] I'll try
to upload it this week if anyone is interested...

I've been playing with ARP's resident command, and find it interesting.
What is it about REZ that makes it better than 'resident', other than
that it sounds like it tries a little harder to load code?

REZ doesn't require ARun, or a special shell for the resident commands to
work is one amazing feature, I'd love to know what REZ attaches to..
Another drawback to the ARP is in order to make a command resident, you
have to load the program into resident memory, but with REZ, you just
specify the name, and the next time you run it, it gets saved...sorta
like FaccII, but it dont ever get pushed out.

Ahhhh! Sounds peachy. I was a little disappointed in the arun
deal. REZ sounds like a winner. It's something that I'd hoped
for for awhile. I'd heard about the old, somewhat dangerous resident
command, but had never used it. Largely because I couldn't find
it, but also because of the warnings.

Maybe someone could convey REZ functionality to the ARP people.

May as well get all we want in one place...

I understand that it is not compatible with Shell V2.07.
