1236.0. "Amiga500, digital moniter?" by REGENT::DITTMER () Wed Mar 09 1988 23:42

    Would it be possible to use a digital moniter with an amiga500?
    This would save me alot of money.

1236.1Possible, but......60457::PARSONSDown-under computing...Thu Mar 10 1988 01:259
    Yes, it's possible. I tried using the TTL RGB output to a Commodore
    1901 (in Australia sold for use with C 128) and it works.. BUT you
    only have 16 colours, there is no way to get the 4096 unless you
    use RGB Analog output, ie. the more expensive monitor. A better
    compromise I found until I bought the "proper" monitor, was to use
    the modulator (about $60 in Aus.) and a decent colour TV. A bigger
    screen TV gives almost readable 80 col. text, 14 inch TV not so
    good.

1236.2I Believe You CanDICKNS::MACDONALDWA1OMM Listening 52.525Thu Mar 10 1988 01:403
    I believe you can connect a VR241 monitor to an Amiga 500. There
    is a note somewhere on this conference that discusses it. No sound
    of course, but that can be had via an external amp and speaker.

    Amiga.
1236.4VR241-A works for meDPDMAI::ANDERSONASat Mar 19 1988 15:2225
    The VR241 works ok I just got my Amiga 500 thursday and it works
    great. I used the hacked up DB25. The only problem that I had
    was that I could not adjust the horizontal enougn so I had to leave
    a .5 inch border around the screen. But since I prefer a black
    background it dosent bother me. Also there was a few comments about
    interlace mode not working to good on the VR241. It looks ok to
    me. But I had to set a black background and bright contrasting
    colors thru preferances. With these colors it dosent look any worse
    the the demo I saw on the Comodore 1080 in the local store. As
    for the number of colors I have a demo disk from Micro Ed that has
    digitized pictures and tho I havent counted them there are more
    than 16. The cat looked good enough to pet. Now if Abel will send
    me the software that I ordered I will be off and running. Right
    now I am stusk with the clock and the performance monitor. By the
    way if you want information about Amiga Dos the manual that you
    get with the 500 isnt worth the paper its printed on. I had to
    buy "The AmigaDos Manual" printed by comodore for an extrs $23.00
    at a book store. Its got a pretty good description of the dos and
    the file structure for a new user.

    So far I am very happy with my new toy.

1236.5VR241 is a monitor that DEC sells, not a digital monitorBOMBE::MOOREclose B cloths mode on Deputy DanMon Mar 21 1988 21:256
    re: .4
    The VR241 is an ANALOG monitor, that's why you get more than 16
    colors. The term "digital monitor" usually refers to the type of
    monitor commonly used on IBM PC (& clones) or C128. That interface
    is also known as RGBI - Red + Green + Blue + Intensity.
