1183.0. "Sony KV-1311CR problems" by TOOTER::RIES (Frank W. Ries Jr.) Thu Feb 18 1988 17:40

After reading many of the notes in this file praising the Sony KV-1311CR
monitor, I decided to bite the bullet and buy one. Well, I am currently
on my third one, and will soon be on my forth (unless I just decide to
punt and get my money back). All three units have had pincushion problems,
ie, the display is not sqaure. The first one was by far the worst, and
is why I exchanged it. Unit number two was so far out of convergence
that each character had a red and a blue shadow. Unit number three has
a bad CRT. The focus is so bad that the colors in the mouse pointer run
together, it also has what looks like a smear on the inside of the CRT.
I am taking this one back tomorrow. I bought it (them) at Lechmere and
I can at least say that Lechmere is very good about exchanging units
but I am getting very tired of it. At least my original Amiga monitor
(1080) is perfectly square and has good convergence. I guess my question
is, of you folks out there with 1311's, have you experienced any similar
problems (lets be honest here)? Also, are there any recommendations for
other good monitors? For what the 1311 costs, I expect perfection!

I had a small pincushion effect on my 1311, but not enough to annoy
me. The color convergence was excellent.

I am now using a Sony 1290CPD, and was dissappointed at the lousy
color convergence. Being a brave soul, I opened it up and spent
about four hours getting it to perfection. The 1311 is now on duty
in the den as a second TV set.

The Sony "Convergence Adjustment" Center is located in Westwood.
Turnaround time under warranty is generally 2 or 3 days.

I have had a Sony KV1311-CR for several years (I ran it on my Apple
before getting the Amiga). To me, it looks beautiful. I don't
see any of the symptoms that you describe.

I have heard that the Sony units were hard to get. Maybe all of
the units left at Lechmers are returns. Are the two units that
    you returned back on sale?

I suggest you take your Amiga to the store and try the next unit
before leaving. I would have done that before going home with the
    second unit.
