I've had a C-Ltd A500 SCSI host controller for over 4 months. No,
they are not out at the local shops yet. You get the host controller
and software (2 disks, drivers/utilities and manual) for $179.
If you want more info, give me a call at (617) 365-6215. (I'm on
vacation). I have several (4) disks on line and one more in the
process for Amy at work. C-Ltd controller works great!
Make sure you ask for the latest version of the SCSI driver (2.03).
C A Wholesale may not yet have it (I do if you need it). It fixes
some bugs with the utilities. All work 100% as of the current release.

Abel also carries one from Supra. Adapter, cables, 1 floppy, and room for
internal RAM expansion up to 2MB.

| memory has the one for the Microbotic Starboard II in stock.
Can anyone explain to me what one does with the controller? In other
words, what kind of disk is needed? What about a power supply and
cabling?

| Owning a StarBoard II with one meg of memory installed and no other
boards, I'm interested in the SCSI adaptor board for this box.
I called The Memory Location and asked them about the board today.
There are none in stock right now; but they are expected to arrive
very soon (heard that before, eh?)
Anyway, from what I understand, you add the SCSI board to the
Starboard II box; this provides a standard SCSI interface to which
you can connect any standard SCSI hard drive. In terms of the hard
drive unit I believe you must come up with a power supply yourself;
either buy or build. In terms of software, TML tells me that the
board comes with all the necessary software (device driver, etc.)
to run a SCSI hard drive --- they added that the driver software
is configurable to the actual storage size of a particular drive,
e.g. 20MB, 30MB, 100MB, etc. (This was my main concern.)
Oh yes, the board will sell for $149.00

| It might be worth while to check if the documentation that comes
with the board (there is some doc, right?), mentions any particular
hard disks they have tested the driver with. Just standard paranoia.

I looked at the microbotics SCSI board this weekend. The
instructionstold how to install it, how to format drives, how
to partition it .. ect. It looked good. I would say from looking
at it that it will work with any SCSI drive of any size.
The bad news
The board doesn't follow the auto-configure standard. They give
you a new copy of mount what causes the board to configure on
power-up. The board uses programmed I/O ( no DMA ).
