1142.0. "Help needed on modem problem" by PUERTO::ALVAREZ (Miguel, from sunny Puerto Rico) Mon Feb 08 1988 13:47

I'm having the following problem, so if you have any suggestions
or ideas, please reply. I don't know what else to do !

I have a DF112 modem, and have been using my setup to log and
transfer data from/to home to my VAX account months now with no
problems. But suddenly, since a few days ago I haven't been able
to communicate. The problem is like this:

I'll hit CTRL-B and get READY from the modem.
    	Autodial.
After a few moments, the modem answers with ERROR on the screen.

Looking at the leds on the DF112, TR is ON, then when autodial
starts OH will turn on, a few moments later CD and RD will blink
and then all leds turn off except for TR and ERROR is on the screen.

I've changed modems, dial different numbers, changed baud rate,
terminal emulators, dial with/without scripts, opened Amy and swapped
8520's with the same result always. A printer attached to the serial
port will work perfectly. DF112's local and terminal loopback tests
will run with no errors. Everything else on Amy is normal.

Help ! Any idea what could be wrong ! I don't have access to another
    AMIGA to try.

Check your telephone line or better yet check your telephone cable
that goes to the wall. It sounds that you have lose wires.

I hope this help but I went through that and it was th RJ11.

1142.2I believe it's fixed !PUERTO::ALVAREZMiguel,from sunny Puerto RicoTue Feb 09 1988 10:5011
    	Thanks George !!!
That was it, I checked the telephone wall socket and
one of the pins looked burnt. So I replaced the connector and it
works. I now get ATTACHED and some weird characters, but found out
this morning that because of some internal control bull**, the
procedure to log into the plant was radically changed.

I've been spending the last 1/2 hour trying to contact the
guy responsible to tell me what's the new procedure.
