1092.0. "Questions on Starboard 2" by COOKIE::WITHERS (SN*W is a 4-letter word!) Thu Jan 21 1988 20:10

I'm interested in adding a Microbotics Starboard 2 to my A1000 and
was wondering if someone could tell me what the current range of
options is for this product. I understand that you can have 0,1,or
2 megs, but there seem to be different modules for the Top-decks.
What are the pros and cons of various configurations?

    Thanks!

PS, if someone has the address/phone number of Microbotics, I'll
contact them and then answer my own questions here.

I've had my Starboard for over a year now with no problems. It's
built like a Mack truck. It can actually be populated in increments
of .5, 1, or 2 MBytes using standard (cheap) 256K DRAMS.

The Starboard will hold 2 full megs of zero-wait, autoconfigure
fast RAM. In addition, it will hold either one of the following:

    1. Multifunction module, which includes a battery clock, socket
for a 12 MHz 68881 math chip, and parity checking hardware and
software. Also included is a new math library for the FPP chip. Price
for this board is $79-89 mail order, $99 retail.

    2. A SCSI board. (Still don't know if it's shipping yet).

The Starboard is a fairly safe investment, since MB makes an adaptor
card that will allow you to plug it into your A2000 should you decide
    to upgrade.

PS: I think Abel Supply will sell a 2 meg Starboard for around
    $430.

    Thanks, .-1

I just called Microbotics asking if they had any glossies I could
get to help me make a decision. The person who answered the phone
said ``no'' and that I should consult the back cover of Amiga World.
This is hardly confidence inspiring when I'm considering laying
out several hundred dollars for their hardware.

Well, I'll place my order for a starboard (through Able) in the
next three weeks, unless I can find one used for sale.
