964.0. "New SAM-BASIC" by DCC::AZUBI () Thu Dec 10 1987 08:20

    Has anybody of you seen the new SAM-BASIC.
    It should be much better than the slow Amiga-BASIC.
    So far as I know should it have the following features:

    - better & faster Editor
    - more support of the multi-tasking capabilities
    - runs much faster

    Maybe the new BASIC is in the USA already released. Unfortunately
    it takes often months till the Software comes to Germany...

    regards

964.2new info on SAM-BASICDCC::AZUBIBernardo da Vinci - the Amiga geniusWed Dec 16 1987 07:4733

    Ok, in the meantime I got some more Info on SAM-BASIC...
    SAM stands for Simons Amiga Multitasking BASIC. It was written by
    the same guy who did Simons BASIC on the 64.

    Seems the rumours have changed to facts...

    First the good:

    - full support of the IFF - Format.
    - 32 independent "BASIC" Tasks
    - comfortable commands for BOBs and Sprites (better than Amiga-BASIC)
    - supports H.A.M - Mode and Copper Programming
    - easy commands for 3D-Graphics
    - faster than Amiga-BASIC

   and now the bad:

    - spartanic Editor
    - needs Linenumbers again!
    - uses an own, different format for libs. So you can not use the
      the standard Amiga-libs
    - the Sound capabilties are not fully supported
    - small documentation

    SAM-BASIC is distributed by:

    PCC Ltd., 3 Mundells Court
    Welwyn Garden City, Herts

    Cost: 86,95 pounds
